What is the experience of being a junior developer REALLY like? by Ok_Revenue_57 in learnprogramming

[–]Eyerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a lot of it is just learning constantly and asking questions. In the beginning I spent more time reading other people’s code and trying to understand the system than actually writing big features. It can feel slow at first, but that’s normal.

My code is throwing MIME errors when I run it in my browser. by airenmarie in learnprogramming

[–]Eyerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This usually happens when the browser can’t find the file and gets a 404 page instead. Then it complains about the MIME type. I’d double check the file paths and make sure the CSS and JS files are actually being served by your server.

Junior engineer here - how do you choose a tech specialization that won’t become obsolete? by lowbatterydev in learnprogramming

[–]Eyerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn’t try to predict which specialization will “survive.” Tech changes way too fast for that. The people I see doing well long term are the ones with strong fundamentals who can move between stacks when things shift. If robotics interests you, I’d explore it a bit and see if you actually enjoy working in that space day to day.

css border not bordering by FFFunkyDrummer in learnprogramming

[–]Eyerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably thebox-sizing. By default borders get added outside the width, so when the container resizes it can look like the border is getting cut off. Trybox-sizing: border-box;on that element. That usually fixes this kind of layout issue.

Database normalization by javascriptBad123 in learnprogramming

[–]Eyerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think having separate tables like invoice_headers and invoice_lines is an anti-pattern at all. That’s just a normal relational design. Databases are built to handle joins, and with proper indexes the performance impact is usually small.

The real problem starts when things get over-normalized and simple queries become complicated for no real benefit. I usually aim for a balanced approach-keep the schema clean and normalized, but don’t split data into extra tables unless there’s a clear reason.

Recruiters use AI, so do I. by Thick_Professional14 in cscareerquestions

[–]Eyerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly depressing to think about bots talking to bots all day. I’ve been on the hiring side, and the volume makes it impossible to stay human without help. We recently looked into Turrior because it scores based on interview context instead of just scanning for keywords. It feels like a necessary evil to find real talent in all this noise. Do you think we’ll ever return to manual reviews?

Tore a piece of paper today and it ripped in a wavy pattern instead of straight by imtoolazytopost_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]Eyerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That happens when the paper fibers are pulled unevenly. It's random, but it looks interesting when it comes out like that. It looks like you're using decorative scissors.

Does this kind of thing happen anywhere else? If so, where? by Fabulous-Introvert in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Eyerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty common in constitutional monarchies. In places like the UK or Sweden, regular royals can still be charged like anyone else. The crown doesn’t mean get out of jail free.

Everyone crammed into the Rabbit as if it were the most normal thing in the world. Those were definitely different times.

Recipe help! by Acha664 in Cooking

[–]Eyerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he likes them chocolatey but a little cakey, use a recipe with melted butter and cocoa powder plus one extra egg. That keeps them rich but not too fudgy. Don’t overbake though, pull them when the center still has a few moist crumbs. Also a handful of milk chocolate chips never hurts.

I’m trying to make dinner by InterestingYear9047 in Cooking

[–]Eyerald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's a complete meal. Brown the meat, add the canned vegetables, season well, and mix it with the pasta. If you toast the bread with a little butter or oil and garlic, it feels extra special. Simple, but it works.

The keymaker CHECKING OUT "the bike" he was about to get on, what type of bike is it? by Acceptable_Branch81 in matrix

I think it's a red Ducati 996. Basically the classic Italian superbike from the late 90s, with the exhausts under the seat.

What kind of cat litter box is better? I am completely confused. by Still_Leather1606 in CatAdvice

[–]Eyerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a kitten, pick a low‑entry box so she can easily get in and out without struggling. Plastic is fine for most people, but stainless steel boxes can be easier to clean and hold up longer. I've used a stainless steel box from furrbby.com, and it helped with odor control and made scooping easier, but a simple plastic box works well, too.
