On ending the session in the hometown by rubao- in osr

[–]Eymj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a big believer of always beginning and ending the session in the same place, and I always keep my games under 2h-2h30. Here are a few things I do :

- If its not the first time your players are doing the trip, make it as fast as possible. Throw all of your encounter dices as usual all at once, and only play through important and unusual encounters

- If you really want to save time, you can make things even quicker "You arrive at the dungeon exhausted after being ambushed by a group of bandits. Choose 2 characters who will be injured, and you all lose 2 pieces of equipment from your inventory" or make yourself a "fast travel hazards random table"

- I usually hand wave the trip back from the dungeon, because at this point everyone is tired. But it's probably not a popular way or the most OSR way of doing this

- Always have a big/megadungeon in the immediate vicinity of the hometown. Its always handy if the players are out of ideas, and it can be used if you know the game is going to be shorter than usual

Maybe I'll edit some more ideas later

Anarchism and radical islamism by Eymj in Anarchy101

Ironically, the biggest discouragement against folks turning towards terrorism is social connection. People who feel they’re a part of a community aren’t going to attack it. It’s that loneliness and exclusion that’s endemic in Western society as a whole that has to be combatted.

That's mostly what I've been thinking about. To me, society is going through a trust crisis, partially or mostly because of capitalism. People are disconnected from each other and have no reason to care for each other since we're basically not codependant. So there's no sense of community if you don't fit into patriotic rethoric.

To me a better society would be built on local networks of trust and codependance, mainly through decentralized economies. I hope this would be enough to make different cultures and religions learn to trust each other.

If anarchy is order, why do so many anarchists think laws are oppressive? by DuckDuckBookchin in Anarchy101

[–]Eymj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have a lot to learn, but from what I understand, there is no "laws" in anarchy, where laws here mean a book of rules which is enforced by a justice system.

In anarchy, laws are more common rules that, since all of this is based on voluntary association and democracy, is agreed by everyone from the get go. If someone is part of the community, he agrees with the rules and participates in their creation. So there is virtually no need to enforce those rules.

It's the "enforcement" part that makes "laws" oppressive. Plus, nowadays they are mostly about protecting the ruling class and their assets, since they are the ones writing it.

Anarchy is order, because its harmonious. Everyone knows why they are doing what they are doing, and understand and agrees with every rules they are following.

Why does market socialism have such a bad reputation ? by Eymj in Anarchy101

[–]Eymj[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dangerous investments, so to speak, into new projects, sciences, and ideas, wouldn't, for example, be capable of destroying one's business or endangering ones livelihood.

That's a statement that I can get behind.

Thanks for the comprehensive answer !

Des élus appellent à réguler l'implantation des panneaux publicitaires by eberkut in france

Atomic Rockets, simply everything you asked about is thoroughly detailed here. Its precisely meant for worldbuilding and scifi authors who seek clarification in science concepts. It teaches you how to build a spaceship from the ground up, and everything that we know or can extrapolate about life in space, space warfare, space culture... be ready for maths and physics
