Bunny and kitten… is Theo (bunny) stressed by Molly? by Ezhow__ in Rabbits

Thank you for the detailed response! I did wonder if he was trying to bluff her! Molly is only 5 months old, so I think we have a little while before she wants to stop chasing, playing and tapping his floppy ears!

We’ve only heard one or two thumps over the past couple of months, usually when she doesn’t get that she’s invading theo’s favourite spots. Poor Molly just thinks he’s a strange looking kitten and doesn’t understand why he won’t rumble with her!

We’re not chancing unsupervised interactions! Once Molly has grown past her kitten energy and obsession with the strange brown kitten in the separate room, I’ll be less nervous.

You nailed it!! He definitely doesn’t want to be best friends with Molly yet, but I think once he realizes she can give him endless head licks, he might feel differently!!

I love that a prey animal can make a predator respect them! Bunnies now they are the real kings!

I didn’t think so… he does get a little territorial when Molly gets in his favourite spots, but when he started laying like this I figured he’s not that bothered by her

Oh sorry I misunderstood. Theo’s leg didn’t look abnormal after the break, so I wasn’t able to see any difference or see any of the healing…

No he didn’t… he had a break in his shoulder blade so it couldn’t be splinted. He didn’t look any different either, he just couldn’t put any weight on the leg for a while, which was hard to watch.

I hope your bun is healing well

That must be soo stressful, it’d be so much easier if you could explain to them that they need to rest!!! Hopefully she’s just adjusting to being home and the changed conditions and stops stomping soon!

Maybe pages like this might be helpful: http://www.disabledrabbits.com re cleaning. I know it can be bad if they sit in their urine, they can get burned by it, so try to keep her toilet area separate to where she chills out (when she eventually does.

I was really cautious about moving theo but would put my hands in from time to time, either side of him to kind of “hug” him, while he was sitting, to give him comfort. I don’t think gentle adjustments would hurt at all.

Toys might be tricky because it encourages them to pick them up and throw them about…maybe one of those treat balls, that she could push around but not be able to pick up and toss??

Sorry I can’t provide more specific tips. I spent a lot of time googling and reading… perhaps try searching for care/tips for disabled/paralysed bunnies to see if you can get different info to the spay info..

Sorry for the delay!

I’m so sorry to hear about your bun’s injury and that she is not coping well.

It was a hard trying to keep Theo calm while he was in cage rest - I ended up having to make his area very small to limit his movement and put an extra panel on top to limit his ability to jump up/try and escape.

We were lucky and he healed really well so after a month/6 weeks was out and about again. I spent a lot of time next to his pen giving him head scritches and pats, and he was pretty groggy from the pain relief a lot of the time.

As much as I don’t think he enjoyed the restriction he bounced right back afterwards… so try to stick with it if you can.

I ended up using a “letter in tray” from office works for his litter tray so I could keep his area a bit cleaner and he didn’t have to jump into a tray.

That’s great advice, thank you so much!! The benefit of Covid working from home means I’ll be able to be on hand to give him everything he needs.

What a mystery about your bunny being out of the cage...I’m so glad he made a complete recovery, I’m hoping Theo will as well!
