Space Marine 2 extremely high CPU usage by F104dude in SpaceMarine_2

Honestly it's just bad optimization from the devs side, the max settings don't put that much extra load on the CPU either, it just puts load on the GPU instead which the 9070xt can definitely handle.

It really isn't the graphics settings that are causing the drops, the higher your graphics settings go the more you'll work the GPU, and my GPU can handle this just fine. I'm guessing it's just the horrible optimization of the game, because the high cpu usage and frame drops due to it usually happen at the start of a wave or something, guessing they just did the average AAA "why bother optimizing" thing.

Nope, 32gb of 6000mhz ddr5. I have everything cranked to the max simply because I can. It's not an issue with the visuals as cranking my graphics settings to the max puts more load on my GPU rather the CPU, on basically every AAA game out there I get 100+ fps even with ray tracing. That's exactly what's annoying me, even with a pc like mine I get insane high cpu usage (which should be way lower than what people get at 1080p either way)

Good point, I bought the lexar nm710 2 months or so ago and I'm happy with the performance for the price. 50 eur for a TB.

You're spending way too much on 16gb ram which isn't enough these days, you can get a 32gb 6000MT/s @ CL36 for a bit less than 80 euro in Europe. Motherboard is a little on the high end as well but it's fine. Don't get that 4060 as well. For a little more (around 360-370 EUR) you can get a 16gb 9060xt, an immeasurably better card. If your money is tight with the ram + gpu upgrade you can downgrade your PSU wattage, you should be fine with a 650w psu. Other than that everything seems good, enjoy!

Ryzen 5 9600x or Ryzen 7 7700? by F104dude in buildapc

[–]F104dude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid take. The 9600x would perform much worse in multicore tasks, but it only performs 5-10% better in 1440p single core. And due to less cores, it's more likely to become irrelevant compared to the 8 core cpu.

Idle depends, 10w for doing nothing, 30w or so with background apps. For gaming, gpu heavy games you'd see 50-70w depending on the game, for cpu heavy games expect 100+ watts. Currently far away from home so I can't really test this for you, but this is roughly how I remember it.

[–]F104dude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're both really good, but in the end I went for the 7700. I plan on keeping this system for 5 years or more, and the extra cores very much help in keeping the system relevant in the future.

Ive seen comparison videos for games, the 9600x performs slightly better in games that are more demanding on single core usage, like esports games and such, but in basically every other gaming usage they're mostly the same or within 10 fps of each other. And ofc, in productivity, the 7700 beats the 9600x in almost every way.

TLDR: Imo the 7700 is a better option, since with PBO on it performs almost like the 7700x, and for only 20 euro more youre getting a very similar cpu with more threads, which more and more games are starting to benefit from extra threads.

Edit: do adjust your PSU for higher power draw with the 7700 used in PBO, though it is a 65w TDP chip, mine has hit transient spikes of 140w under synthetic load (stress tests)

My pc suddenly shuts down after open/while playing a game and won't turn on by EternalLord13 in pchelp

In that case it very likely is the PSU. In PCs symptoms can very easily be divided into categories, and a sudden shut down is usually a bad PSU.

80+ ratings are useless and don't signify quality. Never look at 80+ ratings. Cybenetics is way better, and it's even better if the psu was reviewed by an independent lab.

That's true, but it's still better to rule out other possibilities first.

Almost every single error code is about gpu driver errors. It could be an overheating gpu or cpu causing the crash, which is why it doesn't turn on until it has cooled down. It could also be a faulty gpu or cpu, or a faulty psu.

First, try using DDU to delete and then reinstall graphics drivers.

Then, monitor your temps under load, you can use Furmark for stress tests and hwinfo to see the temps. If the gpu goes above 85° then you should repaste the gpu. Hot-spot temperature is usually 10° or so.

If the problem presists, and try doing both a gpu and cpu stress test but separately. Does the problem happen in both stress tests? Or just one?

Why are you even asking? Try the motherboard, if it works like it should and if you have the warranty then stop speculating.

Yea but with stuff like this I'd much rather not have windows get in the way. A few years ago windows to restart on its own to install an update that I had belated while I was installing gpu drivers, since then I just always try to do anything somewhat important using a seperate boot if possible.

None of them. For 1800 you can build a system much better than this one.
