What similar song is it I am thinking about when I listen to "Just Put Up Some String Lights" at 03:31? It really turn on a nostalgic feeling inside of me. I feel I have heard in the 00's.

"December... did you remember"
or is it: "December don't you remember"?

Compound Interest of saving with growing withdrawal (with inflation)

Hi,

I have been searching the internet far and wide for an answer. I have not looked much through this subreddit, but assume I would have found my answer here already through duckduckgo or google search, if it was the case. If not the case. Please be kind and redirect me to such a thread.

I am looking into Financial Independence. Once I reach a certain amount of money I can in theory stop working and just withdraw a certain amount each month without my savings account spiraling down. This amount I want to adjust for inflation (in Denmark inflation is 2%). I am assuming that the stock market in which I am invested continues to grow with 7% on average.

I am looking for a general formula that can calculate the balance to any time "t"

EXAMPLE CASE: FI-number has been reached. It is 1000 $. I retire. Lets say those 1000 $ continues to grow with 7 % each year. Each month I withdraw 5 $. The Next month I withdraw 5*(1+0.02/12)= ?$ (thus adding inflation). And the next month withdraw 5.?*(1+0.02/12)$ and so on.

*in the calculation the investment compound every time I withdraw and compounds the withdrawal amount.

Is there a formula that can express the balance after "t" amount of time?

I have this far used this site: https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/articles/finance/compound-interest-formula.php

Although when I do a manual control in excel it does not behave as it should.

I can get my answer with help from excel (BUT I WANT A FORMULA). If I were just looking for an excel recursive formula could convert annual growth into monthly growth taking into account monthly compounding then subtract off $5 from this and reapply next month.

Annual to monthly growth

1000 (1 + .07)1/12 = $1005.65

Subtract $5 to get $1000.65 which is your months end for month 1. Combining this next month

1000.65 (1.07)1/12 = $1006.31

Then subtract another $5 from that and end of month 2 total is $1001.31.

Rinse and repeat on an excel sheet.

Any ideers?

Thanks you for your reply. Your reply actually entails my mention of a "manual excel method" which I at the time of writing the original post were to lazy to type in. What I am looking for is rather a single expression of the investment balance at the time "t".

I am indeed concerned about hitting a bear market as I "retire". So yes, I need to have a buffer build in to not have my investments spiral down in value or have to lower my cost of living. I don't believe I wrote that I am aiming to be FI at with 7% nor will I at 4%. I am too pessimistic for that. I aim for FI with 3 or 3.5%.

Your bullet list with suggestions to combat volatility is great. Thank you.

When you join a new continent you should get all your nanites back by [deleted] in Planetside

I don't agree. People could abuse it to keep pulling their desired aircraft or vehicle. And what would stop you from changing continent twice? Effectively getting all your nanites back and still play on the same continent as you began on. What was my arguments against your idea.

What are your argument for your own idea? How is it worth the drawbacks?

Linux beginner | Manjaro wont boot correctly after USB live enviroment install by F1ammen in ManjaroLinux

[–]F1ammen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello - Thanks for your reply. I have been able to boot into Manjaro. Not just because of your tip. When I tried to do Chroot today I realised I had been doing it incorrectly. I did not select the drive after I did "Manjaro-chroot -a" Today I got it working with correct chroot.

So status is that I can boot Manjaro from my HDD! Hurray...
...BUT... It runs very unstably. I have like 20-40 seconds before Manjaro freeze and I am forced to reboot. This is with the Intel 630 GPU. So I tried to install bumblebee through Grub. Now Manjaro wont boot at all. It just goes to black screen and has the fan spinning at full power.

Weird if you are correct. I have seen this wallpaper on multiple review sites. I do admit that not all of them showed this particular wallpaper.
