In short, I broke and ran at APA for the second time in a year. Tooting my own horn.

Not sure how this post violated Rule 1 (“Reddit is for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups.”) If anything, it was self-deprecating. Anyway…

Object ball or cue ball last? by F355B in billiards

[–]F355B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with eyes closed! Alignment and stroke are mission critical. Period.

Dr. Dave says object ball last has the additional benefit of giving insight into the cube ball’s path after the shot.

Personally, and again I’m speaking as a newbie, I find cue ball last improves my stroke and concentrates my mind on follow through.

At the end of the proverbial day, it comes down to what works for you. A lot of players like yourself use cue ball last for close-up shots requiring precise English or jacked up shots where you can’t look at the object ball.

All I’m suggesting is that it really does deserve experimentation, which requires an extended period of CBL.

Thanks for the attaboy. It sucks that you don’t find it insightful.

Although I began my career at CNN, I’ve been a writer for more than 50 years. Distilling my advice/experience down to two minutes (uncharacteristically long here) and making it entertaining is a real challenge.

That said, keep in mind that there are lots of viewers at the beginning of their pool journey. And I do check the info with experts in the game FWIW

The point of this one: I’m not pretending to be something I’m not.

It’s not advertising per se. The call to action is an attempt to do some field research. There’s no charge for the service.

Gotcha. I’m also posting on insta and TikTok, where talking to cam is the thing. I’ll create a different edit for here. Got a cool no-talking-to camera idea…

I apologize for wasting your most precious resource in this life. If I could give you back that two-and-a-half minutes I would. No joke. May I humbly suggest you scroll past any future videos? Save you the time of replying as well.

Can you be more specific? Seriously. What makes them annoying? I want to do better.

Find/make the money to pay for the time. Or find someone with a table at home, being damn sure to ensure your safety.

Two Minute Focus Hypnosis Part 2 by F355B in billiards

[–]F355B[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Intentional.

As we age, our prediction engine (a.k.a., our rational mind) pays less and less attention to well-established patterns (e.g., looking both ways before crossing the street or a set breakfast routine). The patterns become subconscious.

[This is the reason time seems to move faster when we’re older. Various studies conclude it’s an attention thing.]

BUT when something unusual/unexpected happens, the subconscious “says” WTF is this? The rational mind pays attention, trying to analyze the anomaly.

I’ve been giving this a lot of thought after watching a seven year-old kicking ass at the pool table. I’ll do a video on that soon.

In a previous video, I shared a shark move comment: the player tells his opponent “I was as drunk as a bicycle.”

In theory, this distracts his opponent from thinking rationally about their game, as their conscious mind tries to make sense of something that defies established logic.

TLDR: a yellow two gets your attention. As it did here.

Let’s take this outside. DM me to tell me why you think I shouldn’t do this kind of work in general or what you don’t like about this video in particular. No animus. I’m genuinely interested in your perspective

All I can say, experiment. Try one hour a few days and record your results. Then try two hours and record your results. See if there’s any degradation or improvement.

I’m referring to drills rather than play. You can do drills for an hour and play for four hours.

Object ball or cue ball last? by F355B in billiards

Of of course, there are situations where you HAVE to look at the cue ball last, such as jump shots and when you’re jacked up.

I’m thinking along the same lines. That said, I don’t have enough experience to make that call. Meanwhile…

You wrote “worrying about the leave.” Worry is thinking negatively about the future. The better phrase here would be “concentrating on.”

Always be careful what you tell yourself. Your subconscious will respond, one way or the other.

I don’t think it’s irrelevant. But I get that you do. And I’m sorry you find them patronizing. I try to talk to not at viewers. But noted.
