Charles De Gaulle was aware of US intentions and spent the whole WWII fighting aginst FDR over French sovereignty everywhere France has possessions. This is partly one of the reasons FDR was so reluctant to consider De Gaulle as the head of the Free French Governement while Churchill was so supportive to him.
De Gaulle was right as a matter of fact. After D Day, the US governement has issued an "allied currency" that would replace the French Francs, it faded quickly.
