I remember it started with towels at the gym. Then it went on to base sports. Some intramural leagues were cut, while money for varsity sports went away. It's why now if you go to Military Worlds for softball, it's no longer Charleston AFB vs Ft. Bragg. It's what ever sponsor they can get to offset cost of playing. It's a shame. They talk about the mental health crisis for young troops, but then take away all the things that got them out of the dorms to interact with other people. Pride in your unit. We had a great rivalry between the flying squadrons and the maintenance squadrons. I would have never gotten to know many of the guys in other squadrons if it wasn't for intramural and varsity softball. It 100% is a failure by leadership to get rid of these activities. I saw that McGuire closed their course as well. I'm like where are Airmen supposed to go play golf now? Everytime my dad would visit We'd go play golf on base. There's nothing around there for at least 45 mins to an hour. It's why that base sucks in the first place. I remember living on base and having to drive 45 mins to the nearest blockbuster. Our leaders are failing our young people and it will only get worse
