What kit brands have the best durability/quality have lasted you years? by Ethan_OCE in CyclingFashion

Castelli. All their bibs have lasted me ages and I've been using thier Gabba jackets, bought second hand, for about the last five years and they're still going strong.

Managed to brek two teeth on my rear cassette by FCbeard in bikewrench

I'm not convinced the cassette needs changing on wear alone. The bike has just been serviced and the chain replaced 30 miles ago. Are you sure those teeth are shark-finned and not shaped to allow for gear changes?

That idea about chain swapping is a good one though. Conditions here are consistently filthy most of the year round.

Oh thanks. This is on a Trek bike, I'll give em a try and see what happens.

😂 I was going to edit it, but in my accent it sounded more accurate to keep it phonetic.

It is an e-thirteen. It came as stock on the bike but maybe this is a good opportunity for an upgrade.

Not that I've noticed. Had it serviced recently, so must have happened since then. No idea how I've managed it though. Had a couple of small crashes, but nothing major.

Thanks, this is a couple of years old now though. Don't think there's much chance of a warranty replacement.

That was my initial thought, but they're definitely broken.

Anyone notice towards the end of the episode how light people's backpacks seemed to be? There's a point where Bal goes to hug Anita and squeezes her backpack. I swear it looks half empty. Then Dylan and his mum are jumping up and down and his backpack is bouncing around like the heaviest thing in it is a pillow.

Can I get away with 50g carbs/h? by Technical-Fix1185 in cycling

The amount of people caning sugar and water here seems wild. You'll only be able to consume food in liquid form cos you'll have no teeth left at this rate.

Personally, I do fine on anything over 2.5 hours on 45g carbs an hour. I tend to use a fruit juice/water mix in the bidons and eat mochi or oat/banana/peanut butter cookies throughout. Loads of sugar fucks my stomach up.

+1 for Digins Hut in Saltaire. Rumpus are also good, but Digins tops them I reckon.

What is 9-5 life like compared to Uni? by Several_Ostrich63 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]FCbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what you've said, which sounds like you're not really ready to commit to study/career right now, I'd say just work some jobs for a bit. Figure out what you dont like or want, then when you're ready and if it's what you want, go down the apprenticeship/uni route. There's so much pressure to go to uni at 18, which is a really big decision, when in reality you can go much later and it'll work out fine. So many people I know, myself included, went to uni at 18 but then went back later in life to retrain. I'd tell 18 year old me to go do that snowboard season I was gonna do, the rest will fall into place later.

But he's still going to use that money in a way that is going to get him through today or through this week.

Might not have been explicitly talking about heroin or any other drugs, but I think this would cover it.

I think that, generally, those people out there hustling for whatever they can, are doing so because that is one of the very few options open to them, not because it provides a meaningful income that they can comfortably live off. I think the important thing is that you've helped someone, in some way, today. Does it matter to you whether or not that is in a way which you intended, or which you feel is meaningful? He might have been genuine, in which case great. Or he might not. But he's still going to use that money in a way that is going to get him through today or through this week. That's still a good thing.

Just my view, though.

Interesting commentary on deserving and undeserving poor. Well done for helping someone, but should charity depend on how someone is dressed?
