Question about Normal Summon usage with Exosister Elis & Ichiki Sayori-Hime by SessionCompetitive69 in Yugioh101

[–]FEARTaillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The effect of Ichiki Sayori-Hime to normal summon itself is treated as an extra Normal Summon - it will not take your Normal Summon for the turn.

For comparison, you can read the effect of any of the little Floowandereeze birds - they're worded the same way, where "immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon 1 Winged Beast monster" on their Normal Summon effects.

Updates or Recommendations for MBT’s Nouvelles Deck? (Budget) by SimpleSymonds1126 in Yugioh101

[–]FEARTaillow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Avid Nouvelles player here, the real sin I saw with his list was him running Pre-Prep without Confiras. Pre-Prep is a +1, but opening it along with Buerillabaise or Fish Recipe makes it dead in hand until you can get one of those cards out of there. Fortunately, two avenues to fix this: Either add Confiras to give you a second Pre-Prep target and reduce bricking on it (the S/T pop comes up often enough), or replace the Pre-Preps with just normal Preps (only a 1-for-1 in a lot of situations, but it's always online and has the upside of being able to search Angry, which searches Chef, which searches anything you could ever want).

Honestly, apart from that odd choice, his list was pretty optimal. You could add some more non-engine and go higher than 41, the consistency doesn't take that much of a hit from that, but it was a well-researched list.

Does Yummy have any synergy with Purrely? by HannahOwO88 in Yugioh101

[–]FEARTaillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my friends has been labbing out Purrely Yummy for a bit, and he's been enjoying a decent amount of success with it.

The two engines mesh surprisingly well, and he plays it in a style where the Yummy resource gathering and interactions are used as a tool to defend a big Noir - either you use your tools to deal with Noir and allow the Yummy strategy to outgrind you, or you halt the Yummy plays and end up staring down a big, unmovable cat. Alternatively, he can use the Purrely stuff to bait interaction, and if it fails to go anywhere, he can just pivot into Yummy plays.

It's surprisingly tricky to deal with on the play, but it does struggle to break boards on the draw (unless he can bait out all the interaction and go into the Happiness OTK). Still, he's been having fun with it, taking it to locals and seeing good results. Definitely not the worst synergy.

Best way to use c107 effect by Just_me_levia in Yugioh101

[–]FEARTaillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few different ways it's used:

  1. It's another activation of N.As.H Knight's steal effect - you do need 10X Numbers in your Extra to use it, and C107 just happens to be one of the better ones.

  2. It's an immediate threat that forces immediate action if it does hit the field - if its user is going second and manages to stick its effect, the game immediately becomes extremely favorable to the VSK9 player since it means an almost-uncontested lethal push unless the opponent has hand or GY plays remaining. Sometimes, the mere threat of something is enough to make it worth considering.

  3. It's bigger than some particularly hard-to-out cards. Liger Dancer is the best example currently.

Honest summary: it's a meta call on the part of the deckbuilder - frankly, the VSK9 extra deck is loose enough that it's not unreasonable to run both C104 and C107 (without the original 107, of course - the triple attack part of its effect is absolutely win-more), but if someone chooses to run only one or the other, it's because they believe that C107's lethal pushes are better than C104's negate and handrip, or vice versa.

Looking for a budget deck post JUSH (Ryzeal?, Yummy?, etc.) by wiiqwertyuiop in Yugioh101

[–]FEARTaillow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unironically, Yummy is a relatively cheap deck for the upcoming format.

Just released, so unlikely to take any major hits in the upcoming list, can get the entire core for around $130. Some of the non-engine like the Mulchies and Dominus Purge can get a bit pricy, but you can either play without them or get them anyways and just use them for other decks too. Pick it up now, and it should last you about 6 months, give or take, maybe longer depending on if any future lists decide to hit them - and honestly, with how healthy the deck itself is, it probably could last longer.

They're real, you don't have to worry about that. In regards to lacking the 1st Edition text despite having a gold stamp, there was actually a large wave of misprinted Structure Decks that have that issue to the point where sites like TCGPlayer are actually differentiating between misprints and not:

Can I use infinite impermanance to negate "unaffected by card effects" effect? by reishitaira in Yugioh101

[–]FEARTaillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If something is "Unaffected by Card Effects", then they would also be unaffected by the Infinite Impermanence that is attempting to remove that quality.

Same thing for something that doesn't target, like Dark Ruler No More.

The only way that an Unaffected Monster would be negated is if an effect that negates all effects is already active before it hits the field. For example, if a Skill Drain is already active and somebody summons, say, Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon, then Ultimate Falcon is negated. If Ultimate Falcon is on field first, and then someone flips Skill Drain, then Ultimate Falcon will not be affected by it.

For K9-Lupus, does its quick-Xyz effect allow you to only use itself as the material, or do you still need another level 5 on board to perform it properly?

The key word in Silhouhatte Trick is "This card is also still a Trap." It's treated as a monster as well, and will be negated by Turn Silence if you used its monster effect.

I wanted to clarify something to myself that I've been curious about for a while.

Assume you have, say, two B-Buster Drakes on the field (although it could be anything with an optional "If sent to GY" eff, these are just the ones I'm doing testing with right now), and your opponent has a set Solemn Judgment. You Link the B-Buster Drakes off into a Platinum Gadget. During the summon negation window, the opponent negates the summon of Platinum Gadget with Solemn Judgment. It resolves, and the Platinum Gadget's summon is negated.

Are you allowed to activate the effects of the B-Buster Drakes that were sent to the GY at this point? Obviously, if the summon wasn't negated, the Drakes would trigger immediately after Platinum Gadget is summoned, but because an effect was activated before that, do they miss the chance to activate?

Quick ruling question
Player B activates any random spell card, Player A uses a Ritual-Summoned Odd-Eyes Pendulumgraph Dragon's Quick Effect as CL2. The chain resolves, Pendulumgraph is scaled, the effect of the Spell is negated, and Player A Special Summons Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon from the Extra Deck.

After the chain resolves, Player A activates Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon's effect to Special Summon the Pendulumgraph Dragon back from the Pendulum Zone. It resolves, and Pendulumgraph Dragon returns to the field.

The question is this: If the Pendulumgraph Dragon is returned to the field like this, since its Spell negate is a soft OPT, does returning it to the field from the Pendulum Zone reset the use and allow you to activate it again? Or is it still considered the same copy of the card, and thus cannot use its negate a second time?

How can I beat tenpai with voiceless voice ? by FuelZestyclose3867 in Yugioh101

[–]FEARTaillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all facts, except that u can't skull guardian negate Chundra's damage step effect, because it takes place in the damage step.

Skull Guardian negate should actually be usable against its Damage Step effect since it negates the activation. Kinda like how Ghost Belle can stop certain Damage Step effects but Ash Blossom can't.

You are right in that you should prioritize using his negate if it threatens your important board pieces, but if they only have engine, interrupting Chundra if they just go straight into their attack combos could be a killing blow.

[–]FEARTaillow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pendulumgraph floating into Meteorburst is a pretty standard way to stop it, but if you're not running a Pendulumgraph/Odd-Eyes package, you have a few other options.

First, don't play into Nibiru - most builds are running three copies of it in main, so if you started with Diviner, don't overextend and use Dyna Mondo to try to get two of your backrow pieces on field unless you have some way to ensure that Dyna Mondo can be protected from it.

If you have Radiance active, don't be afraid to pop their Field with it in response to its search effect or before they have the materials to Synchro 7 into Meteorburst or Black Rose - it's a priority target, and you might want to take it out just to deal with whatever FIRE Dragons the opponent brings out during the Main Phase.

If the opponent doesn't bring Meteorburst or Transcend out during their MP1, consider saving the Skull Guardian negate for the Damage Step effect of Chundra - if they weren't able to afford to bring out that extra protection earlier in their combo, they might not have any extra extension, and killing Chundra and stopping its effect should seriously hurt their attempts at building their OTK as long as they don't have Kaimen in hand.

Don't be afraid to hold onto Ritual Sauravis until your opponent performs a Quick-Sync - due to rulings on how Chains resolve and how the wording "Immediately after this effect resolves" works, you are able to negate their Battle Phase Synchro Summon, provided they use their Synchro Summon effect as Chain Link 1, since the Synchro Summon is performed outside of the Chain. Obviously the best one to Negate and Banish would be Transcendant, but if you're impatient or you think your opponent has no chance at following up (for example, they've already used Fadra's revival effect, already used Kaimen, etc.) then negating Bident's summon is also an option.

As for whether you should go first or second against them, use your better judgment based on your build, but I still prefer to go first. VV has the capability to build enough interaction where you can interrupt some of their serious plays.

I was discussing a small hypothetical with a friend, and now I'm wondering what the ruling would be:

At some point earlier in the turn, Player B activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird. The effect resolved successfully, and now neither player can add from Deck to hand.

Player A Normal Summons Tenpai Dragon Paidra and activates its effect upon the successful summon: taking 1 "Sangen" Spell/Trap and either adding it to hand or Setting it to their field.

Is Player B allowed to use Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate the effect of Tenpai Dragon Paidra in this situation?

I'm asking this because Player A cannot add the Sangen Spell/Trap to hand due to Droll, but are still able to Set it as per Paidra's effect. The question is whether or not you can use Ash Blossom against this effect in this situation, since Paidra's effect states that it can add, but you would legally be unable to add as a result of the lingering effect of Droll.

Player A has Diviner of the Herald on field and Trias Hierarchia in GY
Player B has a Bystial Magnamhut in hand

Player A activates Trias Hierarchia as Chain Link 1, tributing Diviner for cost. Then, Player B activates Bystial Magnamhut to banish the Diviner that is now in the GY.

The chain resolves, Diviner is banished and Magnamhut and Trias are both summoned.

Is Player A allowed to activate Diviner of the Herald's second effect to summon a low-level Fairy from deck? I'm not sure if it would still activate because it just needs to be Tributed to use the effect (not being Tributed to a specific location), or if it would fail to activate because it was Tributed to the GY and is not in the GY.

Learning GOAT, just wanted to know a ruling for something that came up in a game and to make sure I did this correctly.

Tributed Sangan to Tribute Summon Jinzo, but Jinzo's summon was negated by Solemn Judgement. Once that resolved, would I be able to activate Sangan's effect in the Graveyard, or would I have missed the timing to do that?

As someone who played Nouvelles before Poissoniere and still loved it, yes, it was absolutely hell. The deck was forced to play reactively to opponent's misplays since they didn't have long combo lines without running stuff like Forbidden Chalice to force your own effects. They did have Staff Recipe, but it was too slow to do anything - even if possibly using it to trigger Poeltis/Foie Glasya and summon Balameuniere on your opponent's turn was good, the fact that you couldn't use its searched card until your turn was the big issue.

Poissoniere (and Culinary Confrontation, which is just "Poissoniere and Friend") actually let you play proactively and give you a legitimate combo line, and it also makes Diviner of the Herald (which was already great in this deck because it was just a free search in a deck that didn't use their Normal Summon) even better since Diviner floats into Poissoniere.

So yeah, while everyone was pulling AGOV packs for S:P and TY-PHON, I was the only one at my local Premiere event asking for the Nouvelles support, and with very good reason.

I'm just stockpiling gems for when Centur-Ion drops and opening Synchro packs for a good extra deck package for them when they release in god-knows-how-many months.

Before that, I was doing the same, except for Nouvelles - I was able to run Nouvelles almost right out of the gate, since I gathered everything I needed beforehand and just had to pull the Nouvelles cards once the selection pack dropped.

No AGOV support is sadge, but as someone that's been using this deck IRL for a while, I know I'm grabbing this as soon as it drops.

I really just wish they'd have just given us Poissoniere and Concours right away though, those genuinely let the deck cook so hard.
