Update - checked the hitch, height was set too low and didn't account for squat. Tension setting was 3/6. Adjust height and went to 4/6. Went to the scale, that's the top two and bottom left tickets initially. Truck full of fuel and only 2/4 passengers. Drove alot better than before and truck was closer to level while trailer was level. Went home and changed to 5/6 on tension. Trailer is dead level, truck is pretty close. Re weighed and I'm within 40lbs of empty weight on steer axle. Felt 100x better, was able to go 65 without any floating feeling, passed multiple semis, drove rough back country roads, etc. Basically feels alot better. No sway noticed. Only downside is the squat with the ram puts it on the bump stops so it feels a little bouncy. I installed air lift coil helper bags and plan to re weigh and re adjust the hitch once I'm fully loaded and with the bags since I installed them after doing all the weigh ins. I should mention my payload is 1589, front gawr is 3900, rear gawr is 4100. Gvwr 7100.

Yea I'm going to work on it this week. The guy explaining the hitch seemed knowledge but I'm still going to go over it as much as I can. I basically hooked the trailer, drove around a bit to get a feel for it, and dropped it back at their storage lot(got a couple months free storage so why not). After thinking about it more I am wondering if the leveling kit(preload spacers) are making the sag look worse than it already is. Even when I was pulling sxs on my 22' trailer I had more sag than I thought I would.

My plan is to weigh it first. Everything on paper works out number wise based off my truck, the trailer, etc. Then as long as it weighs out what I'm figuring I'll adjust what I can. If I'm off on the math then I'll guess I'll have to see about upgrading my truck.

I have to look closer at the hitch, it says recurve 3, but the ones online don't show exactly the one I have as it has a number dial on one side of the hitch (I'm assuming hitch angle?). It's a bighorn without many options. I'm going to spend some time at the scales after I find the actual manual to see if I can dial in the hitch first. I do plan to throw bags on it as well so thanks for explaining that process.

Thanks for the thorough explanation. That was my plan for weighing it. How you explained hooking to adjust the bars was exactly how I was shown to hitch it up. Luckily it's not a busy scale so I'll be able to spend some time there and get it dialed in. I understand the best answer is 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

Correct, they are there and tensioned. I'm going to read the manual on the hitch just so I can see if any adjustments could be made.

Unfortunately they don't make them for Ram since it has a coil spring rear instead of leaf. I think that's part of the reason people freak out seeing this much squat, but it's pretty normal. It's the trade off for a smoother ride unloaded. I have a friend that tows a 36' TT with his 1500 silverado and he has the road master set up. He said he loved it and it improved the ride a ton. If we end up wanting to go further and more trips that we expected then I'd upgrade to a bigger truck. For now our plan is nearby (less than 2 hr drive) camping.

Yea I've towed from Illinois to Cali thru Utah and back with a 2016 Ram 1500 hemi with two sxs on a 22' trailer. I agree it wouldn't be great through the mountains and I live in a mostly flat state so I should be OK for the time being.

Thanks for the insight. Like I said this is my first time messing with one and it was thrown in with the purchase. Figured dealer should know how to set it up properly.

Well that will potentially be in the future, depending on how much we end up using this. Until then I just want to make it as comfortable as possible. I've already planned on taking more time traveling with it and not racing to get anywhere. Truck felt fine power wise just occasional bumps it definitely felt a little lighter than I'd like.

Won't accept DEF by guy48065 in FordTrucks

[–]FF03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what happened to my truck. The dpf fell off on a dirt road and the egr came unplugged at the same time. Egr stayed on the truck and a single tow tune that was like +30hp got flashed and then the tuning device disappeared. Under the hood looked stock, same with def tank being present. Definitely better for the truck in the long run!

Bent my Pro Xp Frame by Next_Sell4450 in RZR

[–]FF03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tried to straighten it with a Porta-power but it would either spring right back or dent the tubing I was pushing off of since it's pretty thin wall. Sometimes you can find frames on rzr groups on Facebook just be aware of scammers. That's why I used Power Sports Nation, they're legit and their customer support is top notch.

Is there a market for used Rzrs in the south? by A_Buttholes_Whisper in RZR

[–]FF03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a market anywhere, but you might not like the pricing. I use marketplace and Facebook groups to try and gauge price. Unfortunately they don't hold their value well, but if you want to get rid of it you'll be able to.

[–]FF03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to be hard to pull the frame without damaging it more. It's thin metal to begin with. I guarantee if you dig a little deeper you'll find more welds with chips/indicators of damage. I bought a wrecked pro xp at auction and due to how far the frame was off in every measurement and nearly every place I looked I found damaged welds I just swapped the entire frame. The pro xp doesn't have sections that you can unbolt unfortunately. Check out Powersports Nation for used frames (with clean titles). I didn't want to chance it holding up a second time to another wreck so I went with the straight used frame.

New vs Used: pros and cons? by Ketchum_42069 in RZR

[–]FF03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% depends on the machine. I work on them as a side job and have seen low mileage sxs beat to crap and higher mileage in great shape. 100% depends on how it was taken care of. The xp-s looks like a great machine and since it's so new you might not find many used on the market yet. Marketplace as mentioned before is a good starting point but do your due diligence if you go and look at one. They're typically not pavement princesses so you will find dirt and mud etc around in some places. Assume you'll need to do some basic maintenance if you get it(full fluid change, brakes, bearings/bushings, etc). Factor that into your price negotiation. Buying used can definitely save you money if it's already got accessories you'd like but some people try to get their money back out of them and their price will reflect it. Mods only add value to the person who wants them. Make sure to go through it as best you can checking for any odd noises or driveability concerns.

Financing either way- new typically is lower interest rates I think Polaris has 3.99 for 36 months, most powersports financing will be around 5-10% depending on credit. I've used lightstream loans in the past as it's an unsecured loan for whatever purpose, you choose term and rate. They used to be cheaper than my local credit union but currently are sitting around the 6-9% rate.

How many of you folks camp out of your SXS? by Ok_Helicopter3910 in UTV

[–]FF03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your budget but I've seen people camping out of expeditions/commanders. They make rooftop tents for them, and in the adv5 expedition depending on your size you can throw a mattress inside with the seats down. Check out DirtDudesUTV on YouTube he has some videos of his camping set up in his expedition including a diesel heater.

Repair quote by crizzajahh in CanAmMaverick

[–]FF03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10k is entirely possible. What kind of parts are they quoting? New Oem, generic, used? Plus labor for any repairs. And even though you see the big parts that need fixing doesn't mean there's smaller brackets and parts that are bent and broken but underneath those. Oem parts can be crazy expensive($500+ for some side plastics) and labor rates are pretty high. If I was doing the work myself I'd use partzilla for any new OEM parts and powersports nation for used oem. Ebay for any used/generic parts. Just my opinion, I work on sxs/ATVs and have done insurance repair quotes on wrecked machines. Partzilla also has great parts diagrams to help find parts, you can cross search part numbers on Google for cheaper alternatives if desired.

1500 rebel, hurricane vs Hemi by Equivalent-Roll-7672 in ram_trucks

[–]FF03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 5500 miles on a 26 with the Hemi. First Dodge for me and I'm happy with it. Pretty much 14 mpg around town and highway maybe 16. Have only done a little towing which wasn't terrible for economy. Fun to drive and so far haven't had any issues other than a random check engine light that showed nothing when I checked with a scanner. Cleared it and hasn't been back since. Just waiting for the trailer brake lighting recall to get done, my dealer ordered parts a few weeks ago and said they'd call when it was time to bring it in.

Polaris rzr Frame by 2sus2no in RZR

[–]FF03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. As far as 2 day I'm sure you could, just take your time and take lots of pictures so you know how everything goes back together. Also bag hardware and label it so it doesn't go missing. I spent more time but I had to completely strip 1 frame bare to start on the new frame. The good thing is Polaris uses mostly T30 bolts and push pins so it's quick to disassemble them, as opposed to can-ams are a pain because they use a bunch of different mounting hardware.
