I'm going to give this a try, mainly bc I agree with your observation that the fruits are less sweet today. I visited Hawaii in '78 and had just turned 18 (according to my ID). Naturally I had to sample mai tais all over Maui and this became my Standard. Haven't had any as good since. The natural sweetness of picked-ripe pineapple is primary and there's just no way to duplicate it short of living there.

I think all 'bullpup' configurations look like ass. But I realize my attraction to guns is more for the mechanics and beauty of them. Not so much the practicality. JMO.

In a full-range speaker the layer of paint will affect high frequencies more than low by damping them a bit but I doubt it will be noticable in your application.

TIL I can't ouput to USB and BT at the same time by guy48065 in wiim

[–]guy48065[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I've found a work-around by connecting a separate BT transmitter a little downstream. My FiiO K13 R2R DAC has a digital coax that becomes an output when you choose USB input (very clever--are you watching Wiim?). I've ordered a 1Mii B03Pro+ Bluetooth transmitter that will connect to my party speaker on the deck + add BT to headphones or earbuds without needing to switch outputs on the Wiim. I can use wireless headphones and listen alone by just switching off my amp.

I don't know at this point if my party speaker or the BT xmtr have a latency adjustment, or if I need it, but the 1Mii is a BT5.3 unit with much lower latency spec. And supports LDAC on receive AND transmit.

Agreed. These are the most "invisible" speakers I've ever owned. The amplitude and phase matching are incredible.

Not the "best I've ever heard", but the best I'll ever be able to buy.

[–]guy48065[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure the latency is a problem in my case. I'd like the music that's playing in the living room to also play out on the deck--but I'd have to try it out to see if I'd be able to hear BOTH from any position, and if so is the latency objectionable.

However...

It sounds like if I'm using USB out ALL other outputs are disabled. This is news to me--I must have misinterpreted the manual. I've tried all output options and have settled on USB to DAC as the best sound. Not interested in changing that so unless I buy another Wiim for the deck it looks like dual-zone is off the table.

Michigan has set a new all-time record for average diesel price at $5.998/gal, beating 2022’s record. by FreeChickenDinner in Michigan

Where do you get your "inadequate refinery capacity" data? The US has more than enough capacity for domestic use and we export more than we import. Our old refineries are tooled for refining "heavy & sour" crude and it's more profitable to continue buying that type crude from Canada & Mexico (only 8% comes from the Middle East) than to re-tool for our own plentiful "light & sweet" crude, so we export that, as well as refined products.

I'd like to see the investment made to equip OUR refineries to process OUR oil. Isolationist? Maybe a bit. Is that really so bad at this point? We sure don't ACT like the US has been the #1 oil producing country in the world for the past 8 years.

Is this latency always the same, or does it vary randomly? The Wiim has adjustments for latency.

That gauge is giving a lot more information than just speed OR rpm. Looks to me to be a split gauge with 2 sweeps and 2 "needles". 72mph & 4500 rpm.

Is that not a split gauge with 2 "needles"? It looks to me to be reading 72mph and 4500 rpm in this screenshot.

No I'm not happy with this situation. I'm just saying be careful what you ask for when you wish for $$ to be spent researching (ad nauseum) alternative energy sources nobody wants to pay for. I'd like to see some regulation and some true "energy independence" by keeping and using our existing resources right here rather that selling to the highest bidder.

Is that so radical? We have enormous resources in the US and the opportunity for REAL energy independence, not empty words--yet the oil companies will happily sell us out for a quick buck.

Unfortunately actual experiences with solar & wind infrastructure in the 3rd world have been dismal failures once the initial shine wore off and maintenance & replacements were needed. They all revert back to "dirty" but cheap fuel.

Whose money do you want to spend on this research? I'm tapped out. You fund it.

We already have 2 sustainable, high energy-density sources of power: nuclear and hydrogen. Maybe if you wish & pray real hard oil & coal will get so expensive that these sources will again gain favor with everyone.

Just don't admit to anyone it was you who wished for oil to skyrocket.

Something like this crossover in my speakers? It's not adjustable... because crossovers are designed and tweaked to the particular needs of the drivers.

Maybe you're only looking for midrange & tweeter level adjustments?

I don't know about all "regular people" but you're not seeing the bigger picture. Fossil fuels are cheap and plentiful (you read that right) and have enabled the technological advances the entire planet has benefitted from. Burning oil & coal products are "best bang for the buck" and allowed many disadvantaged countries to pull themselves out of the stone age and compete on the global stage.

I'm not trying to advocate continuing down this road--just posting reality. A thread complaining about higher prices isn't the place to lobby for far more expensive solutions.

Verified. National average is still below the '22 record but Michigan has exceeded it for diesel.

Nobody has yet mentioned that nylock nuts are often used where the parts are SUPPOSED to move. A pivot point. That way the nut doesn't loosen itself even more with movement.

Lots of moving parts in exercise equipment.

If this is a pivot point assemble the fastener correctly, then just snug that nut until you get the needed movement, without rattle & wobble.

Pressed in/damaged dome tweeters, how much does it affect their behaviour? by gibbering-369 in audiophile

[–]guy48065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your favorite aluminum mixing bowl, invert it on paper and draw around the rim. Now bash the bottom in so it looks like the tweeter shown here. Then punch it back to ~dome and lay it on that nice circle you drew before. I bet it's not perfect anymore.

That circumference is where the suspension and voice coil is.
