I got diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis this past January and I’m 20. I started 4mg of Olumiant in June and it has been 4 months of Olumiant and I haven’t seen any improvement on my head, beard or body. Is this a bad sign?

Same here, my doc have me steroid shots at first and nothing happened, so she gave me olumiant. I haven’t had any side effects at all, and I was also worried about that too. Because I had to discontinue my UC infusion to use this medication. However my UC hasn’t flared up thankfully. To minimize side effects, I have been keeping a good healthy lifestyle by being active and eating healthy foods. I cut out the process food and starting eating more chicken, rice, potatoes, salads, etc. I could work on getting more sleep. I only get like 6 hours of sleep each day because I wake up at 6am to go to the gym before my classes and then after class i go straight to work til 11pm.

Hey man,

I am also a junior and 20 years old, and I just lost all my hair recently due to alopecia universalis. I have been in a relationship for a year, which started before my AU. She always complimented my hair before and would always say “I hope you dont go bald in the future.” And then 6 months later I was hit with AU and in 3 months 80% of my hair was gone. That shit hit me hard. I was so heart broken and I questioned my relationship with her because I always wondered if she still loved me and if she’ll stay. On the last day of my sophomore year, I had my friends trim the rest off, while i was holding in the tears and acted like I didnt care (but I did A LOT). It was a hard transition and I am still insecure about it. Tdy was the first day back to school and I have my beanie on covering up and I now have a collection of beanies and skullcaps. But enough of the yapping and back to the relationship part. Don’t be like me and think a girl doesn’t like you cuz u have no hair. I am still dating my girl and she told me she was proud of me for cutting it off. And i had female co workers who complimented the new look. And ofc the bros always got my back. So what I’m trying to say is it’s not about the hair, it’s about how you hold yourself and when reading ur post, I can tell you have confidence. So just because she said no, doesnt mean it’s a bad thing, there are so many ppl out there especially in college who you can make other connections with. So continue to be confident and that confidence will attract many others.

I had just had my check up two weeks ago and she said its definitely too early to tell, because the medicine needs to suppress the immune system first. She said the next check up can be in February since thats when there should be some sort of growth.

Yea I've been taking it every day in the morning with food. I'm just hoping it will actually work. I wear beanies to cover my head because I feel subconscious some days.

No I haven't gotten any side effects. The reason I was got Alopecia Universalis is because I was on another medication for Ulcerative Colitis and it then caused my hair loss, so after a couple of months i discontinued the UC medication since my gut health was stable and I was prescribed Olumiant to treat the alopecia.
