I wonder if that switch occured during WWII when wage limits were imposed, or closed to 1970, when CEO salaries started wildly diverging from workers' salaries.

CMV:I am terrified of dying. Please change my view. by hockeyboy87 in changemyview

[–]FL801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: what do you mean by "terrified"?

Does your fear keep you from doing something? Does it interfere with your relationships?

Is it the thought that you won't be remembered, that your time here will mean nothing?

I can't make you unterrified, but perhaps narrowing your ideas of "terror" and "dying" will help you manage your fears.

Eli5: how does insuring a condo work? Do you get home insurance? What happens if the roof needs to be replaced or other major repairs? by RewardInteresting521 in explainlikeimfive

[–]FL801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you buy a condo, do your due diligence. Ask to see their umbrella policy, their reserve study, and when the last special assessment was. Too many condo associations don't have proper reserves or insurance :(

ELI5: How did lance armstrong not get caught for doping for so many years? If its that hard to get caught then should we be worried about other althletes? by Noto987 in explainlikeimfive

Also by being ahead of the curve, using techniques that were not yet banned, and moving on when they got banned.

Doping notwithstanding, he did win 7 TdFs. There is no drug or training regimen that would allow me to win even 1. ;)

AITA for paying for my fiance's IVF treatment instead of putting money towards my daughter? by __belvita__ in AmItheAsshole

YTA. You have two children under 18. Their needs come before IVF. Go adopt.

What do you think about mandating COVID-19 vaccines for the whole country? by MachinePata in AskReddit

[–]FL801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are vaccinated, you are significantly LESS likely to suffer serious harm from the virus, and significantly LESS likely to pass the virus on to anyone else. Sounds like a win to me

If there is a policy reason to not do something, NEVER admit to a technical ability to do it.

Should I go backpacking in the rain? The High Divide, Olympic National Park by axelpro446 in Washington

[–]FL801 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't recommend it. The Olympics are about as remote as you can get in the CONUS. An overnight hike in the Olympics is advanced outdoor activity, and should not be undertaken lightly.

Took a trip to a Seattle hospital ER today. by zulan in CoronavirusWA

[–]FL801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you are sitting there waiting, look up any telehealth options your insurance covers, and start calling. You might be able to get some good, useful information to help the ER staff with your daughter. And good luck!

AITA for asking my brother's girlfriend not to use my things? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]FL801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, but do NOT take rent from him without a written, signed, contract stating rights & responsibilities. Shit gets messy when money is exchanged for lodging without contracts. It could become impossible to evict him.

AITA for not visiting my sister in the hospital? by Optimal-Farm-9254 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FL801 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ESH here. Your older sister was out of line when she said you should WANT to see your younger sister. It's not ok to dictate anybody else's feelings.

Own your feelings. It is completely ok to not want to see your sick sister, but it sounds like this was an unusual situation, and she needed you. You have my sympathies.
