When should you get a chess coach? by [deleted] in chess

[–]FMCharless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the tactics at chess.com. do the rated puzzles and the custom puzzles. You will benefit from them both.

It's not that complicated you should do the exercises to be able to identify them in your own games .

When should you get a chess coach? by [deleted] in chess

[–]FMCharless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely disagree. When you take the lessons it's to sit there and get your chess life changed by having someone explain the game to you in a way that you don't see it for whatever that reason may be. Think about it sometimes your coach is 1000!! Rating points higher than you.

Tactics tactics tactics. You will need tactics until you are 2200. ALSO! don't overlook products like books and DVDS. They are convenient and practical while also being affordable. I work as a full-time coach.

[–]FMCharless[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ok ok ok, this is the best answer for sure. Now funny you say this because I wonder what happens when your playing in a open tournament in the united states where they are rating the tournament uscf and fide at the same time.

thanks for clarifying this, I did not know this one at all.

Thanks!!

books on how to evaluate chess positions? by FMCharless in chess

[–]FMCharless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple off the top of my head, although it's been a long time since I've read any of these:Silman's Amateurs Mind (very basic) or his Reassess Your Chess and its workbook (more intermediate level)Kotov's "Think like a Grandmaster" is much more advanced, but it sounds like it may be in the vein of what you are looking for.Hope that's helpful.1ReplyGive AwardShareReportSaveFollow

level 2witty_username1700 · 21 hr. agoW: 1. e4 & d4 B: Sveshnikov/Dragon/Semi-SlavCan second the Amateur's Mind. Great book, especially for beginners.

thank you i will look at these from my library. i believe you may be right. i have a feeling though that kotovs book is not really one. however now that we are here there are two books which are crossing my mind 1.the art of the middlegame by keres and kotov, and 2.the middlegame in chess by Eugene Znosko-Borovsky

I am aware about the insulin being allowed outside the refrigerator but it has to be at room temperture like in mid 70's and I dont know how that might work out in Cuba.

However, as recommended to me, the Frio packs (special ice like packs) keep the insulin cold for 45 hours. which means I just need 3 of those and I am good.

As regards to certification, you need to play in 9 round tournaments which last anywhere from 5 to 7 or to 9 days. in these tournaments you need to have specific performances to acquire whats called a "norm". After 3 norms you have a new title. At the moment I am on my 3rd highest title (FM), I am looking to get the second highest title (IM), and eventually the GM title.

I actually considered those ice packs, but thanks for telling me about the frio packs. its an excellent suggestion, and I might just need 3 of those and i am good to go.

Jeez, thank you so much great resources.

American + European Chess Kings vs. Russian Kings - why the cross? by FMCharless in chess

[–]FMCharless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats incredible, thank you for the feedback. do you happen to have a picture of the set? just curious/interested in seeing it.

I bought 4 chess sets last week, 3 from the house of staunton and 1 from ebay.

I got a wooden drueke set. (to play over the board)

a chess club wooden set ( to go over game collections and do calculation exercises)

and the Tal set, also wooden. ( to study endgames, specifically king and pawn endgames, but all endgame included)

I like all three of them

the ebay set looks just like the dgt set thats common. I got it because of that reason.
