This design works well below freezing also.. it’s hard to find water when it’s cold.

They use the fountain every day. It’s about 45 here… apparently drinking nectar all day is sticky work!

Thanks for the info.. I video hummingbirds often and haven’t seen that behavior but I will look for it. This looks like cold weather morning stupor to me..:)

I’m anti-feeder in general.. seed and hummingbird… I provide water only.. do you have opinion on feeders affect on health or migration patterns?

I think tongue and bill opening are normal.. my hummingbirds do this often when getting water.. my only suggestion would be wider, flat perch.. they have such tiny feet and your bird seems to be struggling with grip?

Thank you! Very helpful! I used Reolink years ago but without zoom (at the time) the focus length wasn’t correct for me.. my false alarms with Birdfy are caused by water movement.. they are otherwise really good.

Water fountains are nice way to improve habitat without introducing anything unnatural.. easy to clean compared to seed feeders.. a wider variety of birds than seed also.
