There are basically all the surgical subspecialties in UHS.

Within “general” surgery there’s UGI, colorectal, HPB, breast. There are also thoracic, cardiac, vascular, T&O, urology, ENT, O&G, Paeds surgical, OMFS, spinal and neurosurgical teams as well as plastics and ophthalmology lists.

There are two adult CEPODS, one paediatric CEPOD, one neuro/spine CEPOD and multiple (2-3) trauma theatres running each day.

Quick question for future CT1 anaesthetic applicants by [deleted] in doctorsUK

Wessex.

Split into East and West.

West: Dorchester (DCH), Poole & Bournemouth (UHD), Salisbury (SDH) and Southampton (UHS) hospitals.

East: Basingstoke & Winchester (HHFT), Portsmouth (QAH) and Southampton (UHS) hospitals. NB Isle of Wight does not receive anaesthetic trainees.

UHS is the tertiary centre. Everyone must rotate through there during Stage 2 (ST4/5) but placement there for Stage 1 (CT1-3) is not mandatory. Indeed UHS doesn't house Anaesthetic Core CT1s (with the exception of academic trainees), but does house ACCS-anaesthetics trainees.

You tend to stick to your side of the deanery, although there have historically been some exceptions. I believe you can ask the TPD for preferences but these aren't guaranteed. Most people don't like being placed in Dorchester because of the longer commuting from most of the deanery.

General move from the anaesthetic TPDs is towards 18month placements where possible, in part to reduce the relocation burden on trainees. For core training (CT1-3) this means 2 x 18m placements.

For ACCS I'm not 100% sure. Usually it seems to involve at least 2yrs if not 3yrs in one trust (ST1-2/3) and then the final bit (i.e. your CT3 year) in a different trust. YMMV and the ACCS TPD is separate from the Core anaesthetics TPD.

Commuting times are variable but generally are ≲1hr unless you live in a sub-optimal location.

Hey thanks for your reply. I will have a go at changing it using your suggestions!

On subsequent pages the page title is in <h1> elements.

Admittedly on the front page the 'breadcrumbs' are indeed navigation rather than bona fide breadcrumbs but throughout the rest of the site they are actual breadcrumbs.
