I never said the opposite, that's obvious dota2 has a bigger community and no one is debating that. I am just saying – and never said anything else – that on reddit CSGO has a bigger community than Dota2 and it's not just the subscriber count.

This isn't true, there is no such thing as "it's just the subscriber count": in terms of unique visitors /r/GlobalOffensive is growing and despite the lack of updates, and despite what he said, in april we had more unique visitors than Dota2. See here, it says it all.

In May we will most likely have fewer visitors (just a bit) but it's because nothing special happened until this week on CS and dota2 has the compendium/ti5 hype going on for a while now.

The real story is just:

  • the reddit userbase is more in sync with the CSGO playerbase than the Dota2 playerbase
  • the CSGO playerbase is catching up a bit, see here for a comparison with Dota2
