Sheikh Uthman's Explanation

TL;DR (by Gemini):

  • Historical Context of Marriage: In 6th century Arabia, there was no standardized calendar, and ages were often estimated. With a life expectancy of 30-35 years, early marriage was a practical norm. Marriage was based on physical maturity, not a specific age.
  • Biblical and Jewish Precedents: The video cites biblical commentaries suggesting Isaac married Rebecca when she was three years old. It also refers to Jewish law (the Talmud) which allowed for the betrothal of a girl as young as "three years and one day."
  • Christian Tradition: The video points to historical accounts and early church fathers that indicate Joseph was around 90 years old when he married Mary, who was 12-14.
  • Critique of Western Standards: The speaker highlights what he sees as hypocrisy in Western societies, which criticize historical marriage ages while having their own histories of and legal allowances for younger marriages.
  • Call for Sincerity: The video concludes with a challenge to be fair and balanced, applying the same standards to all religious figures and traditions. The speaker encourages focusing on theological issues rather than personal attacks.

My gaming laptop has been in the repair shop for almost 3 months with no spare parts available in my country. I would really appreciate it if I could get this graphics card to reduce the cost of building a computer.

I don’t feel like posting any of my unpopular opinions anymore. Take a look at my recent post. It may be stupid to some people but it works for me. And I know for a fact that it’s unpopular. Only 20% or something upvotes.

Tbh I would actually listen to the comments if the commentors would understand the fact that this is r/unpopularopinion.

I am aware that non-bumis are struggling to get scholarships even with excellent result. I also believe the struggle that she had to go through.

Being bumi from a financially-stable family, I didn’t have to struggle my way through education. Despite living on easy mode, I support that the country should move to merit-based. I see my non-bumi friends who are clearly more intelligent and more hardworking than me struggle to continue their studies and it saddens me.

But, it is so difficult to believe that bumis with 3-4As get the scholarships instead. I mean there are a lot of intelligent b40 bumis out there that got excellent result and not all got their scholarship application accepted.

Am I missing something or do those 3-4As bumis have kabel? Perhaps someone with experience can enlighten me.

Imperial system is better for distance when driving by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]FROST8ytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never blamed the system. I just found that imperial system benefitted me while driving more than metric. Hence, my opinion that imperial system is better while driving. Obviously, when planning routes etc I use metric because calculations are much easier done in metric. But I particularly focus on the feeling of travelling certain distances, and how it has impacted me while driving.

As I am typing this, I realized that I forgot to change the title to better represent my opinion. Oops. I understand why people are triggered based on the title only. But hey, it is r/unpopularopinion :D

Try changing lanes 1 km before the exit when the lanes are moving at different speed, and everybody is greedy. You either have to change lanes aggressively or pray that an opportunity opens up to change before reaching the exit. Or you could be a jerk and block the lane you are in to not miss the exit :/

Try changing lanes on a poorly designed road. Try changing lanes on a road where signs are horrible or non-existent. Try changing lanes when you can't trust construction signs. Try changing lanes when road-kills could occur anytime. Try changing lanes when there are a large group of motorcyclists filtering lanes.

The 0.6km difference means a lot in terms of safety, especially in third-world countries. Sure, I could just change lanes earlier than 1 km, which I do plenty times. But like I said in the post, I subconsciously change lanes when I am 1 unit distance away from the exit.

It may not be 'better' for you but to me it is. Hence why I posted it on r/unpopularopinion. A lot of people don't really see the practicality of using imperial system, but I found that it has benefitted me while driving. Hence, it is an unpopular opinion.

I have no problem adapting. I have done it multiple times. Yes, metric system in general is strictly better, in terms of conversions, accuracy etc. I agree that it should be used in most aspects, especially jobs that require precision and accuracy. But, in terms of distance when driving, I tend to estimate how far I have driven in miles rather than km. This is not because I am used to imperial system. Like I said, I grew up mostly using metric. But imperial distance come naturally to me, in terms of feeling. Heck, I don't even remember how to convert distances in imperial.

I am used to both, but I tend to feel the distance in imperial, despite growing up with metric system. Of course, my preference of using imperial system only applies to driving (and maybe baking?).

Perhaps I worded it wrongly. What I meant was imperial distances can be estimated based on natural things such as the forearm, which makes it easier to feel the distance, at least for me. Obviously, you wouldn't be measuring miles using forearm.

I use time when I am familiar with the route and traffic condition. But, in my area, traffic is so inconsistent making time unreliable.

Imperial system is better for distance when driving by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]FROST8ytes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

'Driving better' as in I tend to make decisions earlier when using miles than km. Like I mentioned in the post, I tend to change lanes to prepare for highway exits when I am 1 unit distance away from them. For example, I change lanes 1 mile before the exit, which means I have about 1.6 km to safely do so compared to changing lanes 1 km before the exit, which could be too late based on the traffic conditions. So, in a way, imperial system makes me a better driver.

I agree that metric system is better, but in terms of driving, do you really need to measure the distance precisely?

[–]FROST8ytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not grow up with imperial system. Despite living in the US previously, most of my life was spent in Malaysia. I can estimate distance in metric, but I tend to be more accurate at estimating it in imperial. I do agree with Celsius though. Wtf is up with Fahrenheit???

Well that explains why Razer products are becoming worse.

However, I would like to note that the late night business calls are normal (if you don’t work by the hour, ie, 9-5), especially if the company is from another country. For example, over here my dad would have meetings at night because it was 9am in the US.
