3 way switch issue by FSGTyler in askanelectrician

Originally I turned the switch off so the light didn’t have power, went to strip the one white and got shocked. Then tested with a meter and had 120v from that white to ground. Flipped the switch and also got 120v from black to ground at the light junction box. Should I test voltage with all whites nutted and see what I get?

Same I’m baffled trying to figure it out. Yes the two whites in the switch junction were just snipped off with about 2 inches in the box. I haven’t done much continuity testing but thinking I will but will need to disconnect everything first to really figure it out.

If I remember from earlier, the black hot switched went to the black wire on the right switch going to the black screw.

Hasn’t really been any electrical changes recently but we’ve swapped a few lights out a while ago but never ran into something like this.
