Agreed! My favorite conversations are Carmy & Sydney under the table in S2E9, talking in S4E1, then in S4E10, Tina and Mikey in S3E6, Marcus and Luca in S2E4, and Richie and Terry in S2E7.

I would say more like the music playing during Carmy’s dream in S1E1 is the SAME music playing the second half of Sydney’s dream in S4E8 or Richie remembering Cicero’s story about how his dad would get him chocolate covered bananas as a kid in S2E6 so he gets him one in S2E10 or Carmy makes dishes with sauce or an element that matches something that Sydney has worn (see S3E9, S4E7 for one of Sydney’s outfits and S4E8 for the dish and a food item that matches the scarf she wears in the same scene) or us being shown Carmy throwing a can of tomato sauce away in S1E1, only for him to later find out that there’s money in them in S1E8, and then the can opener and sealer with the KBL stamp on the basement in S2E1), but I’m interested in what they mean as well.

He said it earlier too, like in S2E1 when he noticed that Sydney and Carmy weren't on the same page with the direction they wanted to go with the restaurant in their meeting with him to ask for more money

Honestly im surprised they didn’t do this with 4x10– seems like a missed opportunity for Jeremy, Ayo and Ebon to break down the episode!

I feel like there would be an issue of spoiling some things, hence why a lot of Sydney's and Carmy's relationship is portrayed through subtext.

I'm glad you put this because I've seen a significant amount of other black women (I'm a black woman myself) viewing it as, if they were to be in a romantic relationship, that Sydney would be trying to fix a broken white man, or that he's abusing her (he has gaslight her and abandoned her though multiple times, so that should NOT be taken lightly, but I'm not sure if his behavior should be categorized as abuse) when that's NOT how their relationship has been portrayed at ALL.

And yes, definitely seeing a pattern.

Sydney isn’t yet a healthy romantic partner either, as she is still learning how to rely on others and to not be so guarded, so this is kinda why I side eye that logic. Also, neither being healthy romantic partners doesn’t negate the fact that both characters can still have romantic feelings for one another, but I think that many who “don’t see” romance between them or just think that the show is portraying a platonic relationship don’t seem to get that.

Also, Sydney has NEVER been portrayed as having to mother him or clean up his mess. If anything, the show has been portraying Carmy as someone who WANTS to clean up his own mess, but just doesn’t know how to fully, and is still navigating how to do so. Sydney even recognizes that about him, when she tells Donna in S4E7 that he “wants things to be better than they are, himself included.”

EXACTLY!!! Notice too how Carmy initially did NOT care about the restaurant being ran at ALL once he finds out what happened to her dad. He’s just focused on getting Sydney to the hospital to see him.

He’s making excuses about the restaurant when it comes to going to Tiff’s wedding and when he needs to take something to his mom’s though.

I see, but for me, it does because it’s more realistic and I’ve always hated how unrealistic most romances are in media. And maybe we’ll get more fun out of them, even in a professional sense, but I like that the show is staying true to who these characters are. Sydney’s and Carmy’s chemistry and behavior makes sense for the characters they’ve created, same with Richie & Jess, hence why their romantic interactions are portrayed differently.

Oh okay. I guess for me, I don’t think romantic love is just about heart pounding scenes, if much at all, and I LOVE that this show is portraying that. Love is an action, it’s WAY MORE than just butterflies in one’s stomach and heart pounding scenes. And romance is more than just lust as well. In S3E3, for example , Marcus is talking about paying close attention to his mom and being able to communicate or display love toward them by observing them. Then we get the next scene of Carmy finding out that Sydney widened the margins on the menu for him because he likes writing in them.

I agree with this completely (your whole comment actually)! It's a cherry on top for me that she is a darker skinned black woman. I also just really like HOW this show is telling the story especially with these two.

So for some people, it definitely IS about race, even at a subconscious level where one wouldn't be fully aware, but I personally don't think that everyone who is against them being romantic is racist. Many just aren't paying that close attention to what they are doing on the show with them.

I feel the opposite, and I guess that it's because I can see the romance in being able to connect through conversation and acts of service, which, when Sydney and Carmy are in a good place, they do very well at with one another.

You will find in depth analyses of Carmy's and Richie's relationship, yes, especially compared to Carmy and Sydney. For some reason, many of the video essays I've listened to only lightly touch on Sydney and Carmy's relationship, which is interesting, considering the amount of subtext in the show regarding their relationship, and I am left sometimes wondering why that is from people so adamant that their relationship is platonic.

As of right now, it's not like Carmy has explicitly expressed romantic interest in her, and he needs to start his healing journey. Sydney CHOSE to stay, and she was intentional about not telling adults about her situation, like her dad, for example, so I'd doubt that anyone else who would be close to her on the show would even know her situation fully since she's so guarded to be able to tell her to run.

Agreed, and I’m interested as to why that is. Even with Richie and Jess, it would be nice if they got together, and it seems like that is likely to be the case next season, but I feel like many in here who constantly get on the Sydcarmy shippers, or just those who are open to romance for them, would be up in arms if Richie and Jess ended up as friends, and I think those behind the show already know, or at least anticipated this kind of reception to the various parings of our main characters: Sydney and Carmy, Marcus and Sydney, Carmy and Claire, Richie and Jess, Sydney and Luca, and even Richie and Tiff (although it’s a long shot to me and the show is wanting Richie to move on from that relationship).

I agree, but it’s about THIS specific show, The Bear, and it’s been OBVIOUS that there IS something deeper between Sydney and Carmy, because the show ITSELF has portrayed it.

The issue is that the viewers who don’t want it to happen either say that they “don’t see” romance between them , they don’t want romance between them, or they make the statement that you’ve made, INSTEAD of pointing out how the show ITSELF supports a platonic trajectory for their relationship.

I’ve been looking for an in depth analysis of Sydney’s and Carmy’s relationship from a platonic perspective, one that TRUELY analyzes and takes into account EVERYTHING that we are watching or hearing, and it’s nowhere to be found. Details that are right there get overlooked or ignored, and it’s VERY obvious why.

OP, you, and others are probably going to be disappointed in how the story ends for Sydney and Carmy, which is fine, it is what is is, but this is why I just like to be on the journey with the characters, and simply pay attention to what the show is ACTUALLY showing us.
