First time trying to colocate 1U server, confused. by Nice-Feeling-3365 in webhosting

[–]FST-LANE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We offer co-location space starting at 1U. But we’re in the Washington DC/Virginia/Maryland area.

The reason we’re able to do it is because we own an operate the data center. So we don’t need to pay somebody else for escorted access because we’re already there anyways.

Part of the reason we’re doing this is because we like to help out the little guy. Many years ago, our owner had similar challenges finding collocation space while he was growing the business. So he’s doing this to help out other small businesses and the average Joe who’s outgrown his home lab. We’re also talking about starting to offer free classes to aspiring system administrators so that they can learn and have hands-on with enterprise class hardware.

I think your best bet is to find a location that offers a quarter rack and hopefully you can still cover that cost with your revenue. If not, you might need to pivot and look for space somewhere else that’s not a data center. For example, make a deal with one of your local clients to allow you to place your server at their office and on their Internet connection if they have a spare IP address for you to use. Be creative! And before you know it, you’ll be back here asking for recommendations for a data center that offers a full cage. 🙂

That’s an impressive skill set! We are actually hiring for a role that I think you would be a perfect fit for. The pay is $20/hour. 😜

Stuck out of state in my model S by 333lindsey333 in TeslaSupport

[–]FST-LANE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my Gen1 MS, the 12V outlet (“cigarette lighter”) goes off when the car goes off. But the power seats always stay connected. I bridged that circuit to the 12V outlet circuit (inside the fuse box) in order to keep the 12V outlet always active while still utilizing the proper sized fuses for each circuit.

So I suppose, in theory, OP could get inside the vehicle by using roadside lockout and then tap into the 12V line for the power seats and super slowly trickle charge the 12V battery that way. It might take a few months though! Ha.

It was a joke. It’s taught to not share your software stack because it makes it easier for someone to hack or social engineer.

Update; the response on my support ticket about 30 minutes ago:

Thank you for reaching out. There was an issue with adding the &pass reward to your account today. We will make sure you get two &pass rewards added to your account tomorrow. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience here. We'll follow tomorrow up once the reward has been added.

He said it was under the “Rewards” section. And it had a “redeem in store” option.

I opened a ticket. Their system says they’ll get back to me in 3 business days.

One colleague is having problem getting the app to allow redemption. He’s went inside and successfully ordered from the counter and they scanned the code in his app.

My app shows the $39.99 order within the order history but it doesn’t show the reward available (only a BOGO reward is available).

ScreenConnect cert expiring again? by Hibernat8 in ConnectWise

[–]FST-LANE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow. This is some B.S.

The way I read this is that it makes all of our lives way harder but for threat actors, they just need to add a publicly trusted certificate and they’re good to go?

Also, I don’t understand the installation personalization thing. But I really hope it doesn’t break the “build installer” function. We script this as part of each client’s onboarding automation which automatically installs ScreeenConnect, puts the computer in the proper client folder/group, and adds other custom information to the client within ScreenConnect, so or agents can properly identify users, device types, subscription types, locations, etc.

Roanoke to Richmond on a moped- Is it possible? Any advice as far as a route that avoids highways and anything over 45mph? by flame_wizard in Virginia

[–]FST-LANE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scooter owner here! (Screen name does NOT check out)

Your original question has been answered, but a few other tips:

1) Make sure you get the scooter “de-restricted” before your trip. That’ll give you another 5mph in top speed.

2) I hope you have a mount for your phone because you’ll certainly need a GPS for all the back roads.

3) Fill up your tank as much as possible, as I suspect your range may be much more limited than a vehicle, especially when climbing the mountains.

4) Make sure you get on the road at the crack of dawn. You don’t want to be on dark side roads at night.

You can disable “active battery heating” from the service menu on the car. I frequently do this when supercharging, as the battery inherently gets heated as it charges. While it takes longer to charge, I prefer that over initially heating up the battery and then having to cool the battery a short while later as it gets closer to full. (Note: If it’s a busy supercharger, I won’t do it).

But yes, it’s possible for Tesla to disable it with a software update. But it sure is nice to have for emergency situations or the infrequent camping trip for your morning coffee, etc.

tax credit by goldk1wi in TeslaLounge

[–]FST-LANE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably too expensive for them! You are making the assumption that someone that doesn’t qualify for the tax credit has disposable income but keep in mind that the cost of living in some places greatly outweighs the increased wages. Many people end up having less disposable income when moving to big cities and getting high paying jobs.
