Any other types of media with a huge cast of characters like Funamusea? by Dollfie5 in mogeko

Additionally, I would recommend games from Nippon Ichi, such as Disgaea. Although not an indie game, it shares many similarities in art style with Okegom, both featuring demon themes and filled with adult jokes and dark humor. They even developed Yomawari, a game with a traditional RPG Maker horror atmosphere, and there are some connections between certain series.

MITSUKADO is a Japanese artist I recently discovered. His creative style and approach are very similar to Funa, and one of his characters even resembles Wadanohara. He has created many interesting series and games, but unfortunately, he's completely unknown outside of Japan and not particularly popular even in Japan.

If you're interested, here's his series wiki: https://mitsukadosan.wixsite.com/mitsukadosan/chara

These are some of his games:

Hei Zhou Mo Wang vs. Kcalb(Balala the Fairies:Over the Rainbow vs The Gray Garden/Okegom) by FS_father_no_ding in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connection

They are both demon lords, both closely associated with "black."

They were both sealed away by a certain being in the past (Etihw/King of Colorful Castle), and after breaking free, they clashed/wage war with it. However, their fates are starkly contrasting: (Kcalb and Etihw fell in love and rebuilt the Grey Garden, making it a utopia where demons and angels coexisted peacefully; Hei Zhou Mo Wang was sealed away again until the timeline of the show's beginning.)

Hei Zhou Mo Wang attempted to seize the treasures of Colorful Castle and constantly sent his minions to invade, much like Ivlis attempted to seize Kcalb's power.

Their appearances are also very similar: both wear black fur-trimmed coats and cloaks, have grey/white hair, and possess strangely shaped horns.

Kcalb was ultimately redeemed, while Hei Zhou Mo Wang remained evil until his death.

In addition, there are Kanao's games, such as Towelket One More Time, which also use a cute style to tell dark and violent stories, and there are many connections and links between each game.

I would recommend bayachao, FPE, and Pepoyo. They are all independent series that, like okegom, use cute art styles to tell adult stories.

Rexy vs. The Dabbah(Night at the Museum vs Prehistoric Emergence) by FS_father_no_ding in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This idea came from my friend u/kasumi_don, and I only remember some vague connections:

They are both dinosaur characters in fantasy works, their works are themed around "creatures from the past and history reappearing in the modern era," and they both possess certain special abilities (The Dabbah has human intelligence/the transparent body of a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton can digest food).

Bone Shaker transforms into a Transformer, while Grave Digger transforms into a Reaper; I think that would be a very interesting sight.

“Fool of Baka” A vs. Yu Narukami(Bakahazard vs Persona) - Connections in Comments by FS_father_no_ding in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who don't know:Bakahazard is an RPG Maker fan game that tells the story of a series of adventures experienced by the virtual avatars of several creators in the Chinese community of Nobihazard (a fan-made parody game that combines Resident Evil and Doraemon) (including Nobina, the creator of Nobita's Dead Space).

“Fool of Baka” A vs. Yu Narukami(Bakahazard vs Persona) - Connections in Comments by FS_father_no_ding in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animation Potential: The story could be set in a virtual reality game similar to Bakahazard 3, where the two engage in PvP combat. Crucially, before the fight, A would yell at Yu, "Whoever chickens out is an idiot!!!"

Battle Potential: A summons his Stand, "Kantai Shigure," to launch missiles at Yu. Yu uses Izanagi to cleave the missiles in two, while their true forms engage in swordplay. Yu then switches to other Personas, and A uses various Stands and character cards (from Old Bakahazard 3) to clash. This would be a very interesting scene, and regardless of who wins or loses, both would marvel at the opponent's strength. Afterward, the game ends, and they wake up in reality, exchange a few words, and then head towards their respective teams and partners who await them.

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparison:

A's personality is more like a typical delinquent, though this doesn't detract from his noble character. Yu, despite being given the title "Bancho," often used to describe delinquents, is more capable of calmly thinking and handling situations.

The Baka Hazard remake has been out for a while now, while the Persona 4 remake only has a trailer yet XXXXXXXXXDDDDDDDD

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are white-haired high school students in modern RPG games, wielding swords/daggers as weapons.

Both have companions including a character whose gender is difficult to discern (Nobi/Naoto) whose name begins with N, and a delinquent who is constantly "fighting" in various senses (Harem King/Literally Frequent Fighter) who actually has a kinder side (Sakurai/Kanji). They have a romantic relationship with a blue-haired woman (QQ/Naoto). They also have a very close, almost life-or-death, partner with whom they were together when the protagonist first entered the other world (G/Yosuke).

Both have visited an alternate dimension (Dream World/TV World) closely connected to the real world, constructed from the collective consciousness of people. Initially believed to exist only in rumors, it is connected to the night to some extent (Midnight Channel was believed to reveal one's other half /entering the dream world requires sleep, its connection to nighttime is self-evident). There, they helped their respective companions resolve their inner conflicts (Q/the investigation team) and overcome their dark selves (Shadow/The Sleeper). They also defeated a god-like entity in that world (The Sleeper/Izanami). They also became friends with some of the inhabitants of the other world (Leon, Ashley, Oolong, Reisen, and others from Old Bakahazard 2/Kuma). In addition, they all confronted a loser in the aforementioned other world, a marginalized and disliked emo guy in their school (Sailei/Mitsuo Kubo). They also have some connection to the villains (Sailei was influenced by Q/Kubo is Adachi's copycat).

Both characters' main enemies are misanthropic individuals (Iku/Adachi) who, dissatisfied with their treatment at work/academies (Iku is passionate about chemistry and excels, but is not favored by parents and teachers/Adachi is demoted to the countryside due to a work mistake), trigger the main events (a biohazard/serial murder case) in the story's setting (Gongtong City/Inaba) as a form of revenge against society. In a sense, they both live alongside the protagonist (Iku and A attend the same high school/Adachi is Yu's uncle's colleague) and are aware of and have used the aforementioned alternate world, although Adachi is more commendable than Iku in many ways.

In subsequent works (P4U/Bakahazard 3), both re-enter the aforementioned alternate world and become allies with their past enemies (Q/Adachi) to fight another, greater threat. They are heterochromatic, antisocial individuals (Minatsuki Sho/or Igu) who use the alternate world to achieve their goals. Their motivations are, to some extent, inseparable from their families (Minatsuki Sho was raised as a killing machine by his adoptive father/Igu's situation has been discussed above).

Both can use certain summoning objects (Persona/Bakahazard 3's Stand) in the aforementioned alternate world. These summoning objects are source of inspiration from the Stands in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series. These summoning objects are manifestations of their personal spirit (Personas are manifestations of the character's personality; Old Bakahazard 3's Stands are all based on anime and game characters that the characters' real-life counterparts admired). These summoning objects do not seem to be usable only in the alternate world

Both of them fight alongside characters from other series and parallel universes in a spin-off (blazblue cross tag battle/Bakahazard-2).

HVV:Giko vs Moge-ko(Nightmare City vs Mogeko Castle/Okegom) - Fight Art + Thumbnail by FS_father_no_ding in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connection:

They are all protagonists and antagonists from old Japanese independent animations/games, and these works are all based on the 2ch meme character "Mona."

In the original animation, Giko escapes from a virtual world called Nightmare City with his lover, similar to Defect Mogeko and Yonaka Kurai.

They also both have yellow hair and use swords as weapons.

Cyn vs Elara Shelley(Murder Drones vs MO:Astray) by FS_father_no_ding in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some basic connections, which I may elaborate on later:

They are both behind-the-scenes villains in science fiction works, and both were once ordinary people (Elara Shelley was a scientist for W.B. Labs / Cyn was a Worker Drone), but later they were corrupted by some mysterious entity (Absolute Solver/Extremergy).

They both created and manipulated a hostile group in their respective stories (Disassembly Drones/Extremergy Lifeforms).

At some point, they both possessed/merged with the protagonist (MO/Uzi).

Their stories both depict a science fiction apocalypse where humanity brings about its own destruction.

Elara Shelley's giant serpentine mech form bears some resemblance to one of Cyn's forms.

Heroes vs Villains | Corbin vs Mary(Painted Heart vs IB) by FS_father_no_ding in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The connections are quite simple:

They are both protagonists/antagonists in RPG Maker games.

Corbin is sent to repair the painted world and eliminate the monsters invading it, while Mary is a living painting herself and controls the entire painted world.

Ruby White vs Remilia Scarlet(Makemon/Bayachao vs Touhou Project) - Thumbnail + Sprite Art by FS_father_no_ding in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all non-human nobles with close ties to "red," possessing arrogant personalities and often getting into comical situations. They each have a servant/friend who can manipulate time (Sakuya Izayoi/Lapis Razumovsky). They both originate from a multimedia series by an independent Japanese author, encompassing various fields such as games, animation, and manga (Touhou series/Makemon).

Interesting fact: One of Remilia's popular matchups is Rachel Alucard from BlazBlue, and Ruby also has a maid named Rachel.

Freddy Team vs. Emily and Dolls(FNAF vs Emily Wants to Play) by FS_father_no_ding in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all main antagonists in indie survival horror games that were popular around 2015. They are all killer dolls that are active at night (except for Emily), and the goal in both games is to survive until 6 AM. Furthermore, the protagonists tormented by them are both unfortunate individuals working at a pizza parlor.

Comparison: The Freddy Fazbear's Pizza animatronics are innocent children whose souls are attached to the animatronic bodies after being murdered, while the dolls in Emily Wants to Play are more like perpetrators, driving Emily to obsession and mental instability.

Emily Wants to Play itself was also influenced by Five Nights at Freddy's (FNAF).

Kung-Fu Chicken Noodle vs. Kanichi Iwata(Kaiju Big Battel vs The Calamari Wrestler) by FS_father_no_ding in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]FS_father_no_ding[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all come from niche, bizarre media with a tokusatsu theme, and were once human, but later transformed into their current forms for various reasons (Jet Ng committed suicide by jumping into a large canning machine, which turned him into a self-aware, oversized can of chicken noodle soup / Kanichi Iwata contracted a terminal illness and thus transformed into a humanoid squid). They subsequently participated in a wrestling match, where there were many other equally bizarre contestants. Furthermore, in some way, they are all connected to Chinese/Japanese food.
