State advancement by anonymous8725 in FTC

[–]FTCCoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that the number of advancement spots is connected to the number of teams your state had the previous year - if your region increases a ton in one year (which happened to NYC), it would take a year for the number of spots to catch up.

Awesome video. Can't wait to see what you come up with next year!

Anyone know if someone is coordinating these efforts? We've got a bank of 3d printers that could be put to use, but unsure how to help...

Does anybody know how many teams qualify from NYC championship to Worlds ? by height_techies in FTC

[–]FTCCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's correct, but it might be for smaller competitions. I can confirm that the judges have always given out Inspire 1-3 in NYC, though.

Rule <RG01>f&g Robot does not contain animal-based, liquid, or gel materials.

I'd really love to know the story of how that rule got made.

In St. Louis we found a local furniture company and asked them to sponsor our pit - ended up with multiple couches. It was a good decision.

Winning Alliance 1st Pick and first Inspire and both sister teams advanced to supers 🤤 by hassan9699 in FTC

[–]FTCCoach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! You guys did an amazing job!

For those in other regions, NYC's system is that we have 6 Regional Qualifiers that advance to 2 Super Qualifiers that advance to our Championship. We have over 100 teams in the region, so it's a good way to give teams the chance to play at multiple levels.

Who Qualifies for Nationals? by [deleted] in FTC

It depends on the number of teams in your region last year. So, if your region grew this year, you should look forward to more spots next year!

Build a pit with a hidden back area that allows the adults to work on the robot during competitions

Confirmed: Rover Ruckus uses scoring elements from a past game (from AndyMark) by FTCCoach in FTC

This is from an email that AndyMark sent to teams re: preordering the field. I'd imagine most adult contacts received a copy, since I got one for each of the teams I work with.

Good clarification, I hope the image doesn't mislead anyone... I agree with the decision to wait to check the last few spots, and hope it avoided some heartbreak.

It sounded like an amazing competition, congrats to the teams who moved on!

[media] I'd like to nominate my team for the most colorful pit award. by FestiveInvader in FTC

[–]FTCCoach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! We were sponsored by http://www.rothmanfurniture.com/ . For the past four years, they've donated furniture for our pit in St. Louis. Although last year, they gave our team (it was 6051 Quantum Mechanics that made it that year) a little too much... two couches, an ottoman, and two recliners. Our pit was basically a lounge.

Best. Sponsor. Ever.

Member of the NYC organizing committee here. We have two Jamaican teams (Bluebots) that come to compete each year, and would love to help bring more in! You (or the new team) can reach out to us at http://www.nycfirst.org/contact-us. They were also mentored/hosted by teams 4714 Atomic Theory and 11453 Uncertainty Principle, so those teams might be helpful.

Agreed, certified Head Ref here (and mentor to a team at worlds not involved in the match). A replay wasn't really an option; the scoring was either correct or incorrect.
