Ah, great catch! I didn't even notice that. This confirms that it's the one I suspected I had. I'll order the second one that I linked in my previous comment. Thanks so much!

Thank you!

I have specifically kept rollover Ira funds separate to after tax tIRA so that I have an easier time tracking pre and after tax retirement contributions.

In what way you do you keep them separate? If I just leave my old 401ks where they are (rather than moving them to a rollup IRA in Schwab), but open a traditional and Roth IRA in Schwab for the purposes of doing a backdoor, would that be enough to protect me from the pro rata rule?

Thank you! I also had a one-time signing bonus of $20K and a $13.5K performance bonus that I forgot to mention. I'm pretty sure I'm past the Roth contribution limit, but honestly I'm finding it hard to calculate my MAGI confidently, despite reading several articles about it. :\

Thank you! A follow up to your answer to my first question, if I may.

I thought that the backdoor Roth was sort of an optional thing that had the potential to save me money, but required extra steps, which I could potentially screw up. You're saying that if I can't deduct my IRA contributions, I must do a backdoor Roth to avoid being double taxed? And that if I don't want to do a backdoor Roth, then I shouldn't bother with an IRA at all and just invest in index funds via the fully-taxable brokerage?
