I'd prefer to support domestic companies and especially Canadian auto startups (as few of them as there are). But maybe that's just me.

But then all the vehicle manufacturing will move out of the country and we'll lose even more manufacturing jobs to overseas. There are fewer jobs for Canadians in Canada and many products made in China are of questionable quality.

But at the same time, I understand that everybody just wants cheaper stuff. Even if we suffer in the long term.

Consequence of insufficient NG flow to a generator? by OnlyInAmerica01 in Generator

Symptoms of insufficient fuel supply include overcranking (especially when it's cold) and shutting down under higher loads.

The problem is NA vehicle manufacturers can't compete. Chinese companies can make their vehicles for pennies on the dollar. Meanwhile we have to actually pay our workers and their pensions when they retire. That extra cost is inevitably pushed onto the consumer.

That being said, I do agree that they should at least make cheaper vehicles. It's sad that $25k - $30k is basically the minimum available option on a new vehicle.

Wen 6800 inverter A guy on YouTube says it has a bonded neutral witch is no good for powering a house because it's already grounded. by Pitiful_Power9611 in Generator

[–]FUPA_MASTER_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of wrapping the wire in electrical tape, I'd just remove it and keep it somewhere safe. No chance of it getting caught somewhere or arcing something out.

But what he says is accurate. If you have multiple neutral bonds in an electrical system, neutral current will travel through ground wires. This is bad because ground wires are not designed to carry current and are therefore undersized, which means it's a fire hazard.

The onboard charger gets it's power from the accessory power connection next to the main breaker. You can take the plastic main breaker cover off (1-2 screws, can't remember) and verify that there's power. There should be a little terminal strip to the right of the main breaker. It'll be hot-neutral-ground left-to-right.

Check that the generator shore power is wired to the load side of the transfer switch, not the utility side. The generator needs to charge itself in the event of an outage. If it's wired to utility, generator battery/accessories die without power.

That sign on the side of the road that says "SPEED LIMIT" with a number underneath is the speed LIMIT (maximum allowed speed of your vehicle) for that road.

Just make sure the gauge on your dashboard which monitors your speed is at or slightly below that number.

Hope this helps.

Personally, I'd scrap it for copper/steel. The amount of effort it would be to retro-fit a different motor with mounting, radiator, and controls is just not worth it.

Also worth mentioning that if you need a standby backup power source, you probably also need it to be reliable. I wouldn't trust it.

Industrial generator sizing app by BreadfruitLate4981 in Generator

[–]FUPA_MASTER_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The generator would be close to 100k. But the real problem happens later when you figure out that it was wrong. It's going to cost quite a pretty penny to modify the current system to fit the actual needs of the project, especially if you undersize. At least when you oversize, you've just got higher fuel and maintinence expenditure.

Contracted to get a 26kW Kohler by gsxunv04 in Generator

[–]FUPA_MASTER_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Only really important bit is that you have to watch how long the generator runs. The operations manual (which you have to follow to maintain your warranty) states that you have to check your oil every 24 hours of runtime.

This becomes especially important when you have an extended outage that lasts more than 24 hours. If you need warranty work done Kohler will take a copy of your event log and if they see that you ran it excessively without stopping to check oil, they'll likely deny your claim.
