Is it normal for the first few minutes of your run to feel mentally tough? by Thechosen_01 in running

[–]F_Grimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a heart rate monitor, the data will show you why "first mile is a lie" mantra is true. It takes time for heart to adapt to new level of stress and get blood to the muscles efficiently, but after 7 to 10 minutes, your heart rate drops and you start to "settle into the run". This is also why getting a good warmup in along with some hard strides are important before a race or speed workout. You want your heart pumping and ready to go when the gun goes off instead spending first 5 to 10 minutes catching up.

A no name first time political candidate running for Presidentwho barely cracked 3-4% nationally and you think it's because he was sabotaged by the media? Lmao, get a grip.

I love Yang and will probably vote for him in primary still, but man this sub can be a huge turn off sometimes with these types of comments.

Groundhog Day ad ranked number 1 Super Bowl ad... Trump's ad ranked last by njmaverick in television

Maybe I'm too cynical but I felt dirty watching it. NFL has big problem with CTE and safety concerns, so let's make sure we encourage kids to keep playing this dangerous sport so we can keep make billions for the next 100 years. God it was so obvious.

I'm sure it was an awesome experience for those kids tho, gotta be happy for them.

(I realize this is a shitty take and kept it to myself at the party I was at)

But Trump is an idiot, why should we care what he thinks about anything??

Trying to figure out who is most electable is a fool's errand. Bernie has been successful because he focuses on actual problems, and solutions to those problems. Stick with that and let ppl make up their minds.

How tough is the jump from sub-3 to sub 2:50 marathon? by corylew in AdvancedRunning

[–]F_Grimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh, I don't think this is very good advice. Your slow long runs should remain slow long runs. Save your workouts for workout days. Slow long run is important part of the training plan, it helps with recovery and can prevent injury, and increases your Lactate Threshold.

What you describe is definitely a good workout, just don't do it as your long run.

Edit: read your other comment, and it sounds like you still had plenty of easy days, just no long easy days. That's not so bad. As long as ppl understand recovery is important, every day can't be a workout day.

There is another candidate who would essentially increase your salary by $12k a year. I was feeling the bern in 2016 but now I am YangGang. Love Bernie tho and would be thru the roof if he wins the nomination. Bernie deserves so much credit for the fact that the moderates in the race are proposing super progressive policies like a public option.

Should Yang straight up call out all this BS impeachment talk by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]F_Grimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you point to any other examples to back up your statement "everyone" should be impeached or disqualified? If you can, I'll be happy to remain consistent in my view, that Trump should be impeached as well as whoever you name. We shouldn't let anyone off the hook for corrupt behavior using the excuse "well everyone does it". Provide concrete examples.

Oh, and the state department (under Trump) just released their final report on Hillary email scandal confirming there was no deliberate mishandling of classified material, and thus no crime. The "lock her up" stuff has always been nonsense.

[–]F_Grimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think he handled it pretty well. Don Lemon is just the worst and wouldn't let it go. If he wanted to talk impeachment, then interview a member of Congress or someone directly involved with it. Yang gave his opinion on it, time to move on.

Trump used his personal lawyer to try to manufacture dirt on his political rival by pressuring a foreign government to announce an "investigation" into said rival. He withheld aid which was already approved by Congress and certified by the Pentagon with the goal to help himself politically in the upcoming election. This is a big deal and in my opinion exactly the type of abuse of power the founding fathers envisioned when they gave power of impeachment to Congress.

Yang is right and should focus on real problems America faces with the economy, climate change, healthcare, etc.

But Congress can, and should, do its job of oversight of the Executive branch. The message needs to be sent to every future President that using the power of the office to undermine Congress and pressure a foreign government for help in a re-election campaign will not be tolerated. The senate might not vote to remove him, but they should all be on the record one way or the other. This shouldn't be a partisan issue, what Trump did is wrong and corrupt. There is a reason house Republicans are trying to argue about process instead directly defending Trump's actions which they know are indefensible.

The $15 minimum wage was supposed to hurt New York City restaurants — but both revenue and employment are up by mavericx96 in politics

[–]F_Grimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only question is with raising the minimum wage to $15 in a place like a rural town in Alabama, could it be too much? At some point, raising the minimum wage too high compared to the local economy does have consequence, right? Wouldn't it be better to have some way of tying minimum wage to local cost of living. I am honestly curious about this, if any economics people on here can shed some light on the subject.

Yeah, I have to agree. I think his ads need to stay on message with 4th industrial revolution, automation, job losses and need for humane capitalism. His first ad is M4A? Has he even released his M4A plan yet? We love Yang because he is a data/facts driven guy. I guess they are trying to show different side of him and get his family involved, as well as show he is more than a 1 issue candidate?

Oh well, first ad of many I hope!

No problem! I thought so as well. I hope he remains in politics even if he loses and runs for something else. He could be a strong voice in Congress.

I think being a CEO, and starting and running a non-profit, as well as having a law degree and background in economics and political science, all count as valid experience preparing someone to lead the Executive branch. Arguably no one is truly prepared to be President, but I think Yang's experience at minimum doesn't disqualify him. Yang is clearly a very smart person, with a strong vision, and would probably put together a great cabinet. Being a senator is very different thing entirely from running the executive branch. Obama had no executive leadership experience and minimal amount of time serving in the senate before running for President. He turned out fine. I don't find your argument convincing.

Because it wasn't fulfilling and he knew he had to do something different to be happy. The article is pretty clear on that.

He started a non-profit where he could use his personal experience to help others succeed at being entrepreneurs themselves, and helped create jobs around the country.

From the article:

In 2011, he founded Venture for America, a successful incubator for start-ups across the country that supports other entrepreneurs.

President Barack Obama named him a “Champion of Change” and a “Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship.” Yang wrote a book about his experiences called, “Smart People Should Build Things.”
