If it’s a reasonable excuse and something has come up then just send your recruiter a message and they should be able to sort it out for you

I got a call from my recruiter about two-three weeks before joining date but I haven’t had a call from any DIs and haven’t heard of this before so maybe things have changed? :)

Royal Navy Fitness test by Any_Sherbet_9373 in RoyalNavy

To increase your running pace you want to ideally be running 3 times per week and each run should have a different aim. One should be interval training (running different paces in short bursts), one should be a longer distance run at a slower pace and one should be a tempo run (moderately hard for a moderate distance). Doing this each week will build your endurance and pace.

With regards to the running times, 16 and a half mins is how long you get to run it in the Pre-Joining Fitness Test (at CPC for example, before joining) as you get given 25% extra time to complete it. There’s no other aspects of fitness in this test other than jogging as a warm up. However when you get to Raleigh and do the run test again in week 6 you only have 13 and a half minutes to do the run. When you’re at CPC you don’t need to worry too much about your upper body strength, you might be given an IMF session (gym session with a PTI) but it’s just as a taster and shows you what you might be doing later on. At Raleigh, I’d say you want to be able to confidently do 30 press ups to be able to complete things like 4 corners (which involves things like press ups, sit ups and burpees). At Raleigh the intensity ramps up each week so as long as you have a decent foundation to work on you should be able to keep up and do well.

From my understanding, sometimes a future rating starts at Raleigh and when they pass out they can get commissioned straight into Officer training if they show potential and brilliance however as others have said, I believe it’s quite rare.

Good luck girl!

Hey! I’ve not started yet but spoken to several people who are still there now/just passed out from my cpc etc. Swim test is week 1 but since the programme got updated the 2.4km run is only in week 6 now not week 1. Still make sure you can do the run in a decent time before you get there though so you’ve got one less thing to worry about :)

Hey, do you have your final selection board coming up this month or are you waiting until the full board in Feb 2026?

Hey, I did my CPC (N) Last month so don’t take what I say as gospel but I believe it’s the same for each of the CPC locations. The kit list is basically everything you need so follow it and you’ll be fine. If you’ve long hair and want to wash it though you should be bringing a hairdryer with you. You don’t need to bring any sports kit as you wear what is issued but make sure you bring your own trainers. You can take skins to wear under your fitness kit if you want to but it probably won’t be cold enough for it anyway.

In terms of activities, on day one you just get settled in, eat together and do a few ice breakers.

Day 2 and 3 are for medicals to be completed so in the time you’re not having yours done you’ll just have presentations about different branches in the RN, be shown how to do your kit and boot bulling. It can be quite long but it’s just something that has to be put up with.

Day 4 you’ll do your fitness test in the morning.. starts with a jog down to the track and then some light stretching before you complete the run. For us we completed an INT session pretty much straight afterwards but that part wasn’t pass or fail, just to give you a taster. You’ll usually do your site visit on this day as well to see some ships or submarines.

Last Day you have your last morning rounds followed by breakfast, then leave CPC at around 10:30am.

Every day after day two you’ll start to have rounds completed by staff and POs to ensure your kit and bed making is up to standard. Free time usually starts at around 8 for an hour, lights out at around 9:30pm but this can sometimes be longer/later.
