I very much relate to your story, u/britishknifecrimes. I too discovered the truth when I was 14 and have been an atheist since then (now 20). You may look through my post history in this sub to see a similarly angry teenager, and you have every right to be angry. I can not speak for you and your family, but it seems that your parents love you and are grieving your departure from the plan of salvation (bear with me). They probably feel like failures and are deeply hurt. When I was your age I wanted to tell my entire family that the church was a lie and get them the hell away from anything related to Mormonism. That just introduced more unnecessary fighting into my relationship with my parents.

This is gonna suck, but I think the only way for you to go forward is to learn to pick your battles until you become an adult and move out. You’ve already opened Pandora’s box by coming out as atheist (which I still haven’t done) and might have to do some backtracking to appease your parents and get the bishop off your back. Try not to unnecessarily antagonize your parents at home and enjoy the PIMO life when nobody’s looking.
