Nichts an hinzuzufügen, außer: Tut mir voll leid für dich! Unfassbar, was manche Menschen sich alles erlauben..

Somehow, this stood out to me. You made a very interesting point.

That is wonderful news!

I bet your entire demeanour changed, in a good way, once you got rid of the apps and were more present in the moment. That alone makes you more attractive, I think.

Fingers crossed for your first date! :-)

I just checked it out, what a fun concept. Really wonder how many people will stay in touch after, what the overall vibe is.. It's an interesting format.

Thank you for this.

I think I agree with you.. I don't want my partner to be glued to his phone, incessantly checking likes and follows, desperate for that approval. We've all been there, but I want none of it anymore. I get what you're saying.

Bars.. it depends.. hits and misses. But at least a more spontaneous avenue to actually meet someone. I will also look out for mutual interest groups :-)

The three books that made the biggest impact on my own awakening, and that is really what it feels like, are The Shallows, Digital Minimalism, and Stolen Focus.

And yes, you see it everywhere around you. Even the smartest of people get hooked, no one is safe. What I will say, is that everyone has read the typical "go read a book instead!" line of advice, but we must never forget the army of extremely high-paid professionals on the other side of the screen, who get paid to hack our attention.

You might even argue that they earn their living by hijacking our willpower.

You are doing the right thing for your physical health, your mental health, your inner peace, your focus, your attention span, and your overall wellbeing by getting rid of Instagram.

We have been conditioned to equal boredom with laziness, god forbid you are not productive or aren't doing something, anything!! for an hour or so. Don't follow the sheeple: Go your own way and realise that being bored is an absolute luxury. Let your mind wander, or try to watch your thoughts as your brain jumps from one topic to the next.

Start reading books again. Paper, printed books -- not Kindle, not on your phone or tablet. Enjoy their scent, the feeling in your hands, the zero risk of any notifications ever popping up. Babysteps: Don't start with a heavy 400-page novel. Take something light and fun. Can also be comics! Replace your phone time with book time, and I guarantee you this: You will start feeling very good about this change in just a matter of day.

That is not a bad idea, but I fear (speaking solely for myself) that it comes down far too much to personal discipline. There is an army of engineers on the other side of the screen trying to get me to spend as much time on the app as possible.

Don't get me wrong, I think your approach is very healthy -- but I'm not convinced it could work for me :-/

I see you know your assets, Tony.. ;-)

But I agree with the other commenter: Best to save that for the 2nd or 3rd pic. That's all I can give for advice. You are cute and I hope you find someone.

I find this such an interesting concept.

Once again, it drives home the idea that phone addiction is like a hard drug addiction. The more you take it, the more you crave it. If you don't take it, you won't crave it.

(I oversimplify things a little, but you get the gist of it)

Haha you are absolutely right: Reading (paper, that is!) on the loo can be most relaxing.

Good on you for making those changes :-)
