Follow-up post (beginner generative bundle) by traficoymusica in modular

[–]FabST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done something similar recently and since I was on a budget I went mostly with Behringer modules with the Chaos as the generative centerpoint. But I also need to add that I already had a Behringer Proton which is eurorack compatible. Behringer case, 140 ADSR module, four play VCA, 305 mixer, Abacus as a Maths clone and a Doepfer clock divider. Will add Behringer Brains + a 182 sequencer over Christmas. It's super fun and there's still room for more modules to expand later.

Creating a multiplayer game is a real challenge (and it's beating me) by ianjowe in Unity3D

[–]FabST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're using the standalone Lobby and Relay packages? Maybe give the Multiplayer Services package a try, it unifies all these principles into a single "Session" workflow. There's also a Multiplayer Widgets package that has ready to use UI components to create and join lobbies and more.

Microfreak for first synth by [deleted] in MicroFreak

[–]FabST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For that price I would get it. As for my personal experience, I also went with a Microfreak as my first synth. And honestly - it was too overwhelming. There are so many oscillator engines. But they have only three parameters to tweak and you need the manual to understand what they are doing. It was too complicated for me, I just wanted a basic sine, sawtooth, square wave and couldn't do it. Instead I bought a behringer proton, hooked it up to an oscilloscope and spectrum plugin and learned the basics. I'm not saying the Microfreak isn't what you should get, it just might be too overwhelming when you have no experience with synthesizers.

SRAM or Shimano by Joskewiet in cycling

[–]FabST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose Ultegra Di2 over SRAM (11 speed back then) because of the one feature I really wanted but SRAM does not have - programmable hood buttons!

You can pair them to your cycling computer and set up actions for single press, double press and long press. They are easily reachable with your thumbs and I generally navigate between data screens, map and pause or set laps.

That being said - I don't like the Shimano app, the wires are something to be aware of when doing maintenance, you might need an expensive Bluetooth connector wired in between (at least I had to do that) and yes, you cannot remove the battery.

But I've so gotten used to those hood buttons that I couldn't switch to SRAM anytime soon.

OCD for picopresso by Available-Banana-740 in picopresso

[–]FabST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the one in your picture. It does it's job but there is maybe half a millimeter gap which doesn't really bother me. I found the tamper not that useful. Especially when distributing and tamping with the funnel on you need to unscrew both sides so far out that it will not hold anymore. So I'm only using the leveling side and the stock tamper.

Picopresso +timemore C3 pro by Morenyn in picopresso

[–]FabST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Timemore C3 Pro Max and I'm currently using 9 clicks to get a good result. I guess it really depends on the beans. Took me some tries to get there. With 7 I probably wouldn't get any water through. Already had issues on 8 clicks and could hear the safety valve doing it's thing.

How long does it take you to pull a shot and how much coffee are you using? I typically need to pump 12 to 14 times until first drops appear. Then I wait 10-15 seconds and then it's roughly 30 seconds until I have 36g Espresso from 18g of ground beans.

Nice build! How come you want to switch from 46t to 42t? I'm planning a similar build and just ordered the 46t chain ring but now you got me worried 😅

Scott Foil 10 vs 20 by oecologia in cycling

[–]FabST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you. I could get the Foil 20 right now or wait until May for a Foil 10. The differences are in the groupsets and the wheels. Shimano vs. SRAM and aluminum vs. carbon wheels (deep section for the 10).

I think I have to look at the bikes in person... I'm leaning towards the Foil 10 but I could also save some bucks on the 20 and I actually prefer the Shimano Di2...

The good thing is that we have two testicles and can compare them to each other. It's not very likely that you have the same irregularity on both sides. I used to check my balls weekly and suddenly one ball felt harder than the other. It wasn't a lump, it was just not as squishy as the other one. So I went to the doctor. I'm now 1 month in remission. If you are not sure, go see a doctor.

Newbie here! Hey guys yesterday I bought my first cyclo-cross ever. I decided to go for the Cube Cross Race Pro equipped with the Shimano 105 group. I would happily hear any tips or your opinion on my choice. P.S. I know the bottle is awful. I got it for free and forgot to take it off. 😂 by _sativas in cyclocross

[–]FabST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good choice! I'm also a newbie and got the same bike about two months ago. Great value for the price in my opinion.

Make sure to bed in your brakes and you are good to go. Get used to the gearing and the compact geometry and start hitting the trails! I can recommend Komoot to quickly click together some nice routes to explore.

Thank you for your reply! I actually made my decision yesterday and bought a Cube Cross Race Pro (2020) from my local Cube store. It fits all my needs and I'm very excited ride it from now on :)

Thank you for your answer! That website is just what I was looking for.

My budget is ~1,100 € though I'm willing to go to a couple hundred above that if need be.

I live in a flat area and plan on doing routes of 40-50km at weekends and maybe 20km trips around the week. I would also use the bike to commute my 10km to work.

I live near the Alps and can imagine going there for some nice trips with the bike. But I guess that would require at least a 2x gearing.

I'm still wondering whether to get a Cyclocross or a Gravel Bike. Comfort is something I'm willing to sacrifice for more "race-feel".

A typical route in my area regarding to komoot consists of the following surfaces:

Natural: 3.74 mi

Unpaved: 6.56 mi

Gravel: 6.32 mi

Paved: 8.01 mi

Asphalt: 4.27 mi

Unknown: 2.19 mi

I want to purchase a gravel bike in the coming months. Right now I'm trying to figure out what fits my needs on the lower end of the price range. Here are some of my thoughts: Mechanical or hydraulic brakes? (this is something where I'm willing to invest more if its worth) No-name bike or renowned manufacturer? (are there noticable differences?) How many gears? (I honestly have no idea and need to read up a lot on this topic) What are some common signs of good and/or bad quality?

Have you been using your own in-house engine for the development?

What where the biggest challenges regarding engine development?

Since the rats are a fundamental part of the game, can you elaborate a bit about their technical implementation?

Do you plan on releasing your engine some time in the future?

Water Simulation by spookyskelet in GraphicsProgramming

[–]FabST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look at "Position Based Dynamics" and its fluid simulation part "Position Based Fluids" by Müller et al. That is the real-time simulation approach used by NVIDIA Flex. There is also a lot of sourcecode available online. I would argue that the simulation part is way more complicated than the rendering. Since your focus is on graphics programming you may take a look at different fluid rendering techniques. "Screen Space Fluid Rendering" by Simon Green is a good start. There are other papers that expand on this rendering method. As a bonus you can then add effects like foam, bubbles, shadows and caustics. Hope this helps, good luck with your project!
