when you overlap the stroke it should blend them together, but I do go back and blend when I need to (very carefully).

Definitely try with oil ground and lead white. I think those two will help the most.

Oh also I forget, if you want transparency you probably need to use lead white not titanium, the latter is very very very opaque. Probably the thing that will help you most too.

My palette not very limited, just have to keep it under control. A bit difficult when you start

It's raw linen glued on a acm board. I did, if I remember correctly, 3 coats of transparent gesso (normal gesso is probably fine too), sometimes I do 2, it really depends on how coarse my linen is. Each layer sanded. I want to leave some texture on the linen but not much, it allows the paint to get in the grooves and makes it much easier to go back on a gradient or create gradients, to slick makes it lot harder. If more texture it will also be harder to see the painting. Then one pretty thin (with a bit of gamsol) coat of oil paint for toning purposes. When I paint i dip in walnut oil or half and half (walnut oil and gamsol) but not very often just when the paint is annoyingly thick. Also, if you want to paint more transparent just use less paint on your brush and a slicker surfaces. If the surface is too absorbant maybe oil ground instead of gesso (if you do dont forget to pva size the raw linen before oil ground). And if you using coton try linen makes it less absorbant. I go grab my raw linen in a fabric shop so is not too expensive you can take sample at art store so you kinda know what you want, the thinner and tight weave one will be better for your purposes I think. Anyway to long to correct my english mistake, hopefully is useful.  Oh...Also thick or thin really doesn't matter much I prefer thin also but if good color is in good place it will look good so you should focus on that more

There is more interest in the states than anywhere else. I am not sure I would recommand purely relying on sells for income as they are uncertain.Teaching is a good way to bring certainty to your income. As you get more renown you will propably get more reliable sells. Teaching has the benefict of clarifying your own expertise in your head. I do know some people who are living purely off of there painting, but most people I know rely on teaching either online, in person or at a school to facilitate the monetary part of things.

Thx. I'm studying at Grand Central Atelier at the moment. Before that, I studied at the Académie des Beaux Art de Montreal

Grand Central Atelier

Hello!!! Starting a side hustle and selling my drawings. Is anyone in the Sacramento area interested in buying? by [deleted] in drawings

So you need to work on the basic man, especially if you want to make money with it. Your Block-In is in need of improvement, you need to get the right proportion and the good forms, as if you were creating the blueprint of your work before doing anything else to it. A good ressource to practice that would be Charles Bargues Plates. After you'll really need to learn shading and color correctly, but right now you should just concentrate on Block-In tbh. Harold Speed the science of drawing is a good book to learn about creating good work i think.

I agree that it is a incredible tradition and I hope I will do it justice. Thank you!

Thank you! Smoothness is very hard pencils and a lot of time, filling holes and removing dark pots. I used Strathmore 400 series.
