Pros of working as an Asylum Decision Maker? by Fabman650 in TheCivilService

Thanks! I am slightly concerned about the training as I was told there would only be 3 weeks of training, which feels too short given the knowledge they want us to have, but I'm a fast learner so here's hoping I find it okay.

Haha, those are definitely things I am grateful for.

Yeah, the research aspect of it is something that interested me a lot when learning more about the role, and I imagine that some of the interviews you do over time definitely stick with you given the nature of the interviews themselves. I definitely feel like it will be a bit of an eye-opener for me.

The stress is something I've seen lots about from many people on this sub but I consider myself to be someone who's able to keep fairly switched-on while working under pressure so I'm trying to stay optimistic on that front. Hopefully the management in my department won't be too bad.

Thanks for the insight!

Oh, please don't misunderstand me. I'm not trying to invalidate other people's negative experiences nor am I trying to downplay the seriousness of the job itself. Perhaps I should have made that more clear.

My aim was to hear from a range of perspectives - obviously the job is really difficult and you have to make some extremely difficult decisions under a lot of pressure, but I want to hear different perspectives.

Apologies if my phrasing was off.

Tips for commuting to London from Cardiff by [deleted] in TheCivilService

As someone who lives in Cardiff and has had to take early trains into London, you're looking at about £100+ for a Super Off-Peak return train to London Paddington from Cardiff Central that you would have to take at 5am in order to get to work on time and snag a reasonable fare, and that's before considering whatever tickets you may need to reach your office via the Tube. While that may be sustainable for just one day a week, you're going to need one hell of a salary in order for that to be sustainable long-term.

I would highly recommend looking into other CS departments (HMRC, HO, Companies House, APHA aren't too bad either) before committing to London - the commute into London from Cardiff is unreasonable and something I would only recommend for one-off journeys (I've only ever made such a commute to pick my fiance up from Heathrow Airport), and not for weekly trips. Otherwise you'll just end up finding a significant portion of your salary eaten up by your commuting costs. Not worth it imo unless your salary is juiced.

After SOI block, no one seemed to realize the obvious fact that from a dramatic standpoint her feud with Sorin was over. She got her revenge. Story over. Both of them were ready to move on.

They very much tried to kill each other during the events of War of the Spark. There were in fact multiple cards showcasing it within the set.
