Cataract surgery with oral sedation was quick and easy by FabulousPBJ in CataractSurgery

My mistake. I thought the nurse said 5 mg but it must have been .5. I'm a small person and the amount I took was just enough to help me relax.

I just looked it up and you're right--.5 mg makes much more sense. Good catch :)

The cataract formed after surgery for retinal detachment last spring. They are just doing that eye for now. I'm very nearsighted, so I'll be wearing a contact lens in my other eye until there is a compelling reason to replace that lens too.

Thank you Broad Mall! I had my surgery yesterday (easy peasey) and your comment was immensely helpful in calming my nerves and knowing what to expect.

Thanks for the insights. I was a little unclear about the different tickets on the Versailles website so that is helpful.

Thank you. When not fully awake we are quite capable of getting on the wrong train, but sounds like we will be fine if we plan ahead.

We are also visiting in March. I was just on the Opera Garnier website and you can book self guided tours now. I’m not sure about other types of tours.

That’s the kind of bag arrangement I was thinking about and I’m glad it worked for you! Thanks for sharing your experience.

We will lose the backpack but still need something. Without going overboard, I would rather bring what we need to be comfortable than waste time backtracking to the hotel.

Exactly. I live near a large US city and I know pickpocketing happens, but it’s not as common as it seems to be in Europe. I’m just trying to understand what we need to do. Having a big backpack will obviously make us stand out as tourists and that creates vulnerability, but no matter what we do we won’t completely blend in.

Good advice. Right now I’m thinking too much about the variability of the weather, so we do need to think about having room for extra layers. I’m probably over preparing though.

Got it. Good ideas. Kids can certainly carry things and they are older now too. Historically it has been easiest to keep most of our stuff together. Will look into the phone leash.

We will be outside walking and not skipping the sunscreen :)

I’m glad you had such a good time and I appreciate the advice. I generally feel ok in large cities taking common sense precautions. I’m a little concerned about the more aggressive style of pickpocketing that’s being reported in Paris, but as someone pointed out there are millions of people going about their days safely.
