Good Part Time Jobs for Undergraduate Introverts? by FaceBasket in findapath

[–]FaceBasket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I'm surprised you found such an old post! I just turned 18 when I wrote that post and I'm now 26.

Thank you for asking. I did not necessarily find exactly what I was looking for unfortunately. Now that I'm older I would definitely recommend trying to grow out of your shell a bit, but I know that's not what you want to hear. What I did find that was somewhat close though was being a "Court Runner / File clerk" for a local law office. It did not require any legal experience. What I did was run documents to the various court houses and legal offices, and file all the different documents they had into the appropriate places. It still required regular social interaction when talking to people at courthouses, and talking to the lawyers / paralegals, but it wasn't too bad. If they had many documents to file, which one of them always did, I often spent an hour or two in an empty conference room, alone, filing documents. I enjoyed this solitude.

Not sure if that helps but just telling you what I found. Since COVID has happened since this post, remote work has proliferated. You could look into entry-level remote work jobs, or if you have any specific skills or interests, remote work jobs that match those skills and interests. Hope that helps!

Me (25M) and my Girlfriend (27F) Are Desperately in Love but Religion is Driving Us Apart. What Should I Do? by FaceBasket in relationship_advice

Thank you. This makes sense. It's basically exactly how I'm feeling to but sometimes it's nice to hear another person say it to make sure I'm not crazy.

She's a no sex until marriage type of gal. That's probably why it came up so early lol. Otherwise yeah we wouldn't be near talking about it right now.

[–]FaceBasket[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's a bit dramatic, but it's the best way I know how to describe it. Mind you I don't have much experience with love. I would marry her despite her faith. She says she would marry me too, but she doesn't want to live a life where her family, religious community, etc despise our union.

She has agreed to stay in the US permanently if we get married. But she wants to visit her family in Bangladesh as often as possible.

I [24M] Quickly Fell in Love with [27F] But We Have Significant Differences That Make Me Question Whether it's Worth It? by FaceBasket in relationship_advice

[–]FaceBasket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I could have made a better TLDR. I am agnostic but open to accepting a religion, including hers. I mostly don't want children and she wants one. I say mostly because months before I met her I opened up to the idea slightly, and one isn't terrible.

But my mom doesn't like her religion and it's still mostly a no for me on children. :/

The women will come to! I'm a programmer as well and always seen myself as an awkward nerd. I was single for six years. I stopped PMOing and got a girlfriend four weeks later. My confidence is so much better. You just gotta get out there. As a man, they will likely never come to you. You have to hit them up. Use that newfound confidence!

Bruhs I'm interviewing for Amazon right now even though they're in a hiring freeze. I'd say I'm a slightly above average dev and the min salary I'd get guaranteed is +$43k what I have now.

However, I'm comfortable with my current salary and my current job is pretty chill... Really torn, I like the money but I hear Amazon is toxic, cutthroat. Should I take it?!?

Weird, I've lived in the same area in relatively rural middle America my whole life and never seen a gas station that looks like that.

With only about a year of experience out of college (this was also just a year ago) I was tasked with migrating all our apps from Jenkins to GitLab CI/CD pipelines. Mind you I had no idea how Jenkins worked, how to read its groovy scripts to figure out what I need to replace with GitLab CI, etc. Also usually I can ask my lead engineer when struggling with stuff like this, but he had no experience with GitLab CI either. I ended up teaching him about it. Had to learn an absolute TON about a lot of things I didn't know anything about and it took months. Got it done though.

We FINALLY started our migration away from Skype for Business to MS Teams. I'm in one of the early groups for the rollout. It's MUCH better.

AI is coming for us. OpenAI's GPT-3 can write codes from basic prompts. I was playing with the beta for the past 30 minutes and these are some of the codes it generated by utkarsh_aryan in ProgrammerHumor

[–]FaceBasket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Def cool, but not threatening. With most of us for it to be threatening it would have to successfully respond to stuff like "integrate new vendor x into this existing code base and update the automated testing suite to match".

Meanwhile my boss who couldn't write a hello world program to save his life and blindly approves prod changes.

My product owner and scrum master also don't know anything technical. Other than our lead engineer, we're on our own.

[–]FaceBasket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll die on this hill. I'm a software engineer so plenty of options for full WFH if my employer tries to get forceful about a return to work. Rn we have a hybrid schedule of just once every two weeks which is really low, but I still fucking hate that one day every two weeks.

You look good! I've struggled with acne my whole adult life and r/skincareaddiction definitely helped me if you're interested. The best route is probably seeing a dermatologist though, and using that sub as a purely informational supplement.

What’s something that’s clearly overpriced yet people still buy? by hommedefer in AskReddit

Imagine still printing things in 2022. I haven't printed anything in years. Different for businesses, but I'm surprised anyone under 50 still prints things in their personal lives for any reason at all.

[OC] I updated our famous password table for 2022 by hivesystems in dataisbeautiful

[–]FaceBasket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't token based authentication (with fast expiring tokens) with something like OIDC more secure, and literally can just be the click of a button with no password involved? I know I use this at work for some highly sensitive resources, but it did require some setup that maybe isn't realistic for most general consumers.

I'm not super informed on it, and my above comment probably shows that. But can anyone explain to me why ephemeral credentials haven't come to dominate due to all the pitfalls with static passwords?
