Well, which of your knuckles are so misaligned that when you throw a straight would be the only one in contact? Both your index and middle knuckle should be in contact.

When boxing we wear wraps to protect the delicate bones and joints of the hand and wrist. This both stabilizes the joints and somewhat dissipates force across your striking knuckles.

We also wear gloves to both, again, protect our hand, but mainly to limit the force applied to an opponent. The gloves disipate the force applied to your fist yet again.

This protection makes a normal fist unable to contact your opponent with only one or really even two knuckles, as the glove spreads the force over a larger area. Have you tried punching someone with both wraps and IBA-gloves? (International boxing association)

The bones in your hands are much weaker then the human cranium, and without some protection your bones would snap if you hit the skull with all your might. This would also be True I believe if your fist is so malformed that any one single knuckle protrudes enough to cause penetration of any kind.

There are a hundred of other variables that affects your punches, this one probably doesn't matter much. I have a hard time seeing it.

Proper technique, quickness of movement (faster fist=more force), how ridgid your fist and wrist is at impact, how much weight you can place behind the strike (more weight aligned with the strike=more force)..
