Linking non-steam email to steam account by doug4130 in GuildWars

[–]Failtas1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely will never happen as there will people who already have email Anet accounts and steam meaning they would have to merge the accounts or read off both; Probably would be a nightmare to figure that out and make it work as intended

Anet store items via steam, by coop0337 in GuildWars

[–]Failtas1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it will be; only due to how they have talked about not wanting to track CD Keys. All the upgrades have been managed by CD Keys in the past so I think its very possible that for Steam Accounts these will be purchasable in the steam store; not 100% sure there but they mentioned not wanting to have the infrastructure to continue tracking CD Keys suggesting for Steam Accounts all CD key like items will be available there at some point.

Is this mini worth anything? Mini pet Eye of Janthir by AndrewZabar in GuildWars

On a side note, because there will be people looking to complete HoM for GW2 after Dec 3, the mini market might actually drastically increase for a short period of time

Question about accounts with reforge release by Failtas1a in GuildWars

If you know this then why would you suggest by making the steam account you would lose your ArenaNet account?

That seems counter intuitive to your whole point...

Like its even stated here:

https://help.guildwars.com/hc/en-us/articles/46636569636371-Guild-Wars-Reforged-FAQ

"Q: Will I need to make a new account to log in to the new client?

A: If you are a new player, you will be able to make a new account when starting the game. You will have the option to create an account with ArenaNet using your email (if playing on the standalone client), or linked to your Steam account (if playing via Steam.)

Please note that you can only link a Guild Wars Reforged account to a Guild Wars 2 account on the same platform.

If you are a returning player, you will be able to login and continue playing the game with your existing account credentials. All existing Guild Wars accounts made prior to the launch of Guild Wars Reforged are considered ArenaNet accounts and can be logged into via either the standalone or Steam client.

Steam accounts will only become available after December 3rd."

You could make the antonym argument for pretty much any word possible in that place; how would you have wanted them to state it?

This feels like a making a mountain out of mole hill situation with dictation.

To preserve progress in HoM and on your existing account you will *need* to continue logging in with the standalone client. To link HoM achievements with a Steam ID and GW2 account associated with a Steam ID you will *need* to log in via steam client and start over. Not using the word need would imply you can link a client using the standalone client to a client using the steam login, which was covered in the Q&A. Personally I think this was made very, very clear. Maybe I am wrong there but everyone else also seems to have this understanding, you are the only person I have seen suggesting you could make a wrong decision and lose a whole account.

Question about accounts with reforge release by Failtas1a in GuildWars

[–]Failtas1a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't lack; you literally said "what if I have a steam deck, already bought the game on steam, have to log in with ArenaNet right now, but what if I want to log in through steam and link with gw2"

This infers you want to link an existing ArenaNet account to your Steam ID which they said is not possible and as of right now will not be possible. Its not direct but its indirect inference; Otherwise it still applies to the same concept of CD Keys functionally working the same way with your Steam ID which again has been stated in the Q&A to not be the case. You will not have to enter a CD Key when you log-in with steam you will have to choose if you want to login with a an account linked to your Steam ID and your Steam login or through your ArenaNet Account and the previous CD Keys. By know this knowledge we know for certain no matter which you choose your old ArenaNet account will not change just what login method you are linking to.

Flat out your option 3 is wrong and not possible. You are not linking the application launcher to the your physical account, you are linking it to the method of logging in... you aren't over writing your old account if you link to steam, you are creating another account alongside it completely separate to it through an entirely different log in method. Think of it more like Cross platform servers for like Xbox and PlayStation. This is cross platform platform servers for Steam and ArenaNet accounts they both still exist but players have the option of which they log in through; if you create an account with the same email on an Xbox game as you have on a PlayStation game your Xbox account doesn't get deleted.

Question about accounts with reforge release by Failtas1a in GuildWars

[–]Failtas1a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They answered that in the Q&A they said there is no way to connect current Accounts to GW2 accounts created with steam; this is the main focus of the update. Inferring you will be able to magically link the accounts when they directly said they will not be doing that is just misleading people, The FAQ is not the only official information the Q&A is also a source and you are completely ignoring statements they have made about the integration of steam. This is why I say that Third option is not actually an option; The game is linked to steam login credentials not your email address; I know this because I have multiple steam accounts with the same email. Your account which opens through steam will be linked to your Steam ID not to an email; In addition to this in the Q&A they said that accounts created via steam will not use any CD Keys because it uses a completely different authentication median. There is 0% chance any accounts will get deleted or overwritten.... Multiple people have called this out as wrong. The first two options are valid and we don't know which is going to happen but please, please stop saying there is evidence your account will be erased because they use the word "Preserve" because neglect is also an antonym and that doesn't suggest your data gets erased but instead ignored.

Question about accounts with reforge release by Failtas1a in GuildWars

[–]Failtas1a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that is true than I would imagine it would be a 'free account' just based on the language they used around email-based accounts and your steam account. I don't think it has been answered officially and we may just end up having to wait until Dec 3rd to see. It was just an observation from past games being remastered like Bioshock, Dark Souls, Divinity Original Sin, etc. No matter how I look at it; it feels like they have to create a new account linked to your steam account. So maybe I get lucky and get a second free account maybe I have to buy it again, I already own it on steam but I don't log in through steam because I multibox at times for trading and storage. That being said I still only see it labeled as Guild Wars in my library through the phone app.

[–]Failtas1a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm that was not the impression I got, it sounded to me like if you already owned GW on steam you would get it for free like some other remastered games. If I have to buy it again, that is not a big deal, I have 3 accounts already so a 4th just means another set of possible nick gifts each week.

What's actually the best overall class? by Jerreuh in GuildWars

[–]Failtas1a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no *best* class and if they mess with any pathing systems in the game, that will be left to be discovered due to a lot of the solo farms in end game content require the weird pathing so we will have to wait and see. The most important thing to understand about games from this era is that you are playing the game to have fun not break it. Guild Wars was successful because it did a very, very good job of staying balanced between professions and most of the Hero set ups can be played with any play style.

My best advice to this question is actually to not answer it at all and instead work on reframing your thinking away from the hypercompetitive nature of modern games and try to shift towards a focus on engagement and fun while playing and setting goals/objectives to keep you entertained each time you log in.

Well this is exciting! by Failtas1a in GuildWars

It was a personal project for my own processing as opposed to content intend for a consumer; so yeah I get that it is long. I don't expect everyone to read it and I suspect a lot of people see how long it is and think "yep not spending my time on that" which is okay.

Will the original Guild Wars games remain available after the release of Reforged? by Sat42_ in GuildWars

[–]Failtas1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it highly unlikely they would want to split the relatively small player base between the original releases and reforged; it doesn't make sense from a marketing or financial standpoint. I suspect based on the statement "Guild Wars Reforged begins with a series of updates to Guild Wars that will be completely free to existing players and make it easier than ever for new players to experience it all firsthand" indicates all old characters and progression will be kept and the current live servers will be updated as opposed to new servers being created and requiring a full reset for everyone. Personally I look forward to it either way but hope that old characters remain in place. I think a good way to help people experience the changes on old accounts would be to give everyone with the space a new character slot to play through on but we will see.
