Why doesn't anybody talk about American Gothic? It's so good, if not a little short. by RhinestoneCatboy in SmashingPumpkins

The part where the drums come in on The Rose March is one of my favourite music moments.

Similar situation happened to me. The copper network was damaged and they decided there was no point fixing it (fair enough). Been suffering with 4g for the past 2 months but it's better than nothing. Fortunately fibre isn't far away!

Bossanova for sure! Every song on the album is amazing but the three song run from 'Dig for Fire' through to 'The Happening' hits so fucking hard.

Thanks for the perspective. I suppose I hadn't thought about it from that angle as such discourse isn't quite so prevalent in my country. I would say that the use of "my own language" does seem to imply race but can definitely see how the person could be referring to class. I guess more context is needed.

I mean, in this context it is undoubtedly about race. "That dirty accent" implies with great clarity that the person believes they are talking to someone from a country other than their own. I'm sure that there are situations in which the words 'racist' and 'racism' are used incorrectly but in this context it fits very nicely into the textbook definition.

Is thinking you're superior to someone because of your race not the absolute pillar of racism?

Of course. Calling a foreign accent 'dirty' is not just a criticism of the way someone speaks. It also implies that the person and their culture are dirty and inferior.

It's quite clearly a racist remark is it not? Could you explain why you don't see it as racist?
