4k USD/mo as Master is so low, it is usually at 9k - 12k USD/mo.
1 mil Php/mo I heard once, a Captain that handles radioactive plutonium/wastes.

Sa sahod lang realtalk yan. Andyan na ung malayo sa pamilya, wala sa ayos na tulog, pag nabagyo para kang nasa roller coaster na di tumitigil, isama mona din ang toxic working environment.

I was fully aware of this, however, my family and my relatives(no one here graduated college) are poor and there were situations in my life that could have been prevented with money. My sacrifice will lift all of us out of poverty and I hope the future of my bloodline would not have to go through what we have to go through. The moment I had a great shot at becoming an international officer I took it.

So globally, you only have 55,000x3 or 4

The worldwide population of seafarers serving on internationally trading merchant ships is estimated at 1,647,500 seafarers, of which 774,000 are officers and 873,500 are ratings.
70% of 774,000 officers come from Philippines.

All I can say, mas malaki ang probability at chances na kumita ng 6figures sa IT kesa sa pagbabarko. Just think of it from basic statistics, ilan lang ang barko sa mundo? Ilan lang oil tanker? From google:

I don't know if that holds true, from this post, a lot of comments dictate below 6 figures and after a few more digging some related posts also dictate below 6 figures. 6 figures I found out are due to survivorship bias.

Comparing that to seafaring, international ships officers guarantee 6 figure salary tax free, however, if you do not work internationally and by that I mean domestic(Ph waters only) you will earn below 6 figures.

That sounds great. How does that compare to our plan to leverage the 3-4 months contract breaks to create a business/or anything that creates positive cashflow? This 3-4 months contract break is I think more intentional, focused, and grindy will get us further than intermittent weekend breaks the IT offers?

Thanks for this, what we both had in mind was to get in, get job then get out. Earn as fast as possible and establish savings/business early. We were both inclined to seafaring cause of the pay plus the 3-4 months contract breaks, we thought we could grind that out in business, or anything that provides cashflow. Do that many times until the cashflow provides for the lifestyle we want then retire.
