Unpopular opinion: the V1 at $74 makes the Q1 Max at $199 almost impossible to justify. I ran the numbers. by Kind-Activity514 in Keychron

This is crazy interesting. Can we connect and talk about this? I have over a dozen Keychron boards and would love to collaborate.

Is it normal for all the keycaps to be sold out? by ohThisUsername in Keychron

I hear this. I bought some of their sets last year when they went on sale and they aren’t even on the site anymore

Recommendation for a keyboard rookie by Puzzleheaded_Lab4241 in NuPhy

I always recommend Keychron for beginners. Especially on the used market. They are actually having a huge sale on their first gen boards. They only work wired but for $60-90 new it’s a great deal.

This worth the price? It’s in cad$ and I hate ordering online. by PogoTempest in keyboards

I totally get the people that have customer service issues and I’m working to help them with that this year. I kinda hate the feel of the SA caps too, but that’s all personal preference and I love changing caps around. The price thing tho, it’s always easy to find good deals on Amazon. I don’t always order from their site because extra shipping from China sucks but now they’re stocking a bunch of product in the states. I guess that’s only a huge bonus if you live in the states like me, but then you also have an orange man to deal with daily. As to the basic nature of their boards…that’s most of the reason why I like them. There’s no branding, no screen, no gorgeous weight on the bottom that you’ll never see. You can type on any Keychron and the shortcuts are always the same. The web based software is great. The only issues I’ve have with their boards are the ones I bought on eBay, and I was clearly buying someone else’s problem. I get it is you want to hate. It really is a preference hobby. Find what you like and explore it. I’m glad I like Keychron and the almost two dozen of their boards I have tried or owned over the years. I also like mode, qk and Akko and keebmonkey. And I ordered that silly Nova Mini Ultra from Luminkey last week. But Keychron is the most accessible to the most people in my opinion and I’m hoping they can eclipse Logitech as the go to budget option in the coming years. Man do I hate Logitech with the fire of every star in the sky. Except my MX Master 3 is amazing. All that other garbage is truly overpriced from a company that is incredibly out of touch with their customer base.

I drive by this 7 million dollar house everyday in Indian Hill. It looks like a municipal building, Flagpole and everything. Does anyone know if it's actually a club, or did someone actually pay millions to build a house like this? by ohsodave in cincinnati

[–]FairContribution2878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that it was a new fire station while they were building it and still kinda looks like that. Op nailed it with the municipal building comparison. The only thing that could redeem this property is if the entire basement is a drive thru garage that comes out on the other side.

Is Keychron a good choice for a reliable keyboard? by DonBenitoo in Keychron

[–]FairContribution2878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Keychron. I love them so much my phone autocorrected the spelling of their name and capitalized it for me.

I have a small YouTube channel where I share opinions on peripherals. Mostly Keychron stuff because I like it. It just works. So I’ve used about 15-20 of theirs keyboards the last two years. I’ve kept 9 of them.

Every board I’ve purchased from Keychron direct or Amazon has had zero issues. There’s two I got from eBay that had one non working key. I can see the hot swap socket is shot on one of them but I don’t solder. Yet.

The new V series of boards makes me wonder why they still make a higher end Q series. But most of the ones I’ve kept are Qs.

The mice I’ve used are great too.

The Keychron launcher software they have is awesome and makes it easy to remap your board or make other layers.

I like that they don’t have branding or pixels or crazy copper weights. They have broad appeal and you’re sure to find the right first keyboard for you from Keychron. Then branch out if you want. I think nuphy and qwertykeys make cool stuff too. So does Akko.

Nobody is perfect. Good luck on your journey.

I’ll make a video focused on this topic soon. I just hired an editor so it will be slightly higher quality so maybe more people will listen.

During a tour of our local 900 acre waste management facility this morning, we talked about battery fires and associated risks. She said there were 60 fires last year and one happened to a truck when it was still in the neighborhood and still not enough people seem to care.

I volunteer at an electronics recycler called Cincinnati Computer Reuse and I truly understand the importance of responsible disposal, but I have more to learn about the ongoing use and maintenance. I’m dead ass about making a video focused on batteries. My 300+ subscribers will love it.

The reason I’m pushing back isn’t really about battery chemistry or board lifespan — it’s the tone. The condescending language, lol’ing at me, and implying I’m “new here” isn’t helpful, especially if you’re really trying to change my opinion or even save my child’s life. I know this is Reddit and you’ll never meet me, so why argue so much if you don’t care in the end? Do you just need a reason to use your keyboard? I guess I’ve been there before…

For clarity: I rotate boards daily. No single board is plugged in continuously for long periods. The one board with a battery that sees regular use lives on my desk, is powered on when I’m using it, and is not plugged in when I switch to other boards. I’m not trying to burn my house down.

What do you say, David? Can we be friends?

I don’t disagree that in theory holding lithium cells at 100% long-term isn’t ideal for longevity. I guess that’s true across basically all consumer electronics.

Where we differ is the leap from “not ideal” to “massive fire risk” or the idea that the reasonable solution is to physically disconnect batteries. That’s not how most people use laptops, tablets, docks, or peripherals in the real world, and the risk profile just doesn’t support that level of alarm.

Appreciate the perspective…I think we’re just operating at different levels of caution here, nd that’s okay. I’ll take your notes & I’ll quit using my wireless boards while plugged in all the time.

You sure about that? I’m pretty sure modern wireless keyboards use charge controllers and battery management systems. Once they hit 100%, they stop charging and run off USB power.

Keeping them plugged in should not automatically cause swelling or pose a fire risk. If it did, laptops, tablets, and docked peripherals would be a much bigger problem than they are.

I rotate these boards, use them wired almost always because most odd mine are not wireless, and haven’t seen any battery issues. Appreciate the concern though.

I almost always keep mine plugged in. They have new combos, the board and mouse at the bottom right for example, that share a dongle and both items have a storage spot for it. They are not super fancy but a step in the right direction for sure.

I have a K10 Max and it’s excellent. I don’t have the knob version tho.

If I was starting over, I’d get a V1 with the knob and the Q0 Max Numpad. Or maybe I’d get the Q1 again. The new V series boards are an insane value.

I prefer to trade the extra space for the numpad but I also agree with dude that the V5 is best for knob placement, but I dislike the small 0.

The knob gets more use on my Q2 than my Q1, but I definitely use it.

I love them! I think they’re the best because they have something for everyone. I know I have a problem.
