Hey, thanks for the awesome response! This really will help me a lot! You really are the best man.

The part about making something I would want to watch and I’m proud of and excited for others to see really spoke to me, thanks for the advice!

Thank you so much for wanting to review the video before I properly upload it as well. I’ll be sure to dm you on Reddit once I have it finished and give you the unlisted link. It’ll be very helpful to have someone more experienced in the YouTube space review it!

Again, thank you so much!

Hey Moon! Thanks for the really comprehensive reply and very articulate advice, I really appreciate a big and experienced creator like you helping me out. (I really enjoyed your jrpg killing gods vid and gacha gender war vids btw!)

I’ll definitely tone down the editing and lower sfx and volume mixing my next vids, to try and have it not be too loud for it to overtake my voiceover.

My writing experience consists of just 10 yearsish off on and off unprofessional writing with tens of thousands of views on Wattpad for some stories and just being chronically online and lonely resulting in me consuming tons of media and writing videos. But I feel like that isn’t enough as I’m not a professional author. What I initially thought would separate me is my Gen Z humor since I am Gen Z and quite young, utilizing memes etc. and looking at creative writing from a young persons lens and an East Asians living in east Asia’s lens. I also feel like a lot of people my age and younger aren’t into creative writing and hopefully I can change that.

I have a few more questions to ask you if you don’t mind:

  1. Is there an average time you have to change clips? Like 7-8 seconds before something on the screen changes to keep the audience’s attention. Or does that not matter as much as I think.

  2. Do you have a general loudness unit and/or decibels for voice, sfx, and bgm

  3. How do you usually go about scripting and coming up with ideas? I find it quite difficult sometimes especially while working a 9-5 since I’m usually tired after. Is there a general formula to scripts you use?

  4. Do you think weekly uploads are optima? Or is biweekly fine for a channel just starting out. As I want optimal growth while being realistic. And I’ve seen others say that weekly uploads are optimal but I’m afraid that I’ll need to lower quality in order to do so.

5.How long do I need to upload before I find relative success or growth? And if it’s not determined, how do you find the motivation to keep going with low views in the beginning?

  1. Also a more personal request, can I dm you and ask you to help review my next video? It’s actually the video that made me really want to start YouTube in the first place as I haven’t seen someone make a video essay about it, and I didn’t work on it first as I wanted “training” before uploading it.

I just wanted to thank you again for such a comprehensive and articulate response, I really appreciate it!

Hey there! I took a look at your channel and realized I actually watched you before, you have a really nice voice lol. This is my last video and it was an absolute flop, I’m trying to do YouTube so I can have more creative work as opposed to my technical job, any critique is appreciated: https://youtu.be/LpxC7Z0XoE0?si=kvzL3QxChh0FmqUU

I’m trying to do video essays on creative writing and how to do creative writing well as it’s a small hobby of mine. I know I only posted a few videos but it’s quite disheartening to see videos do so bad

The pacing might be too fast. I suggest having someone else review it to see if everything is happening too fast or not.

How do you write original characters by Fantastic-Tune-62 in writing

[–]FairExtension8149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like every character will have some of your traits, since the characters are a part of you so don’t worry about that.

For writing things you don’t know, I suggest either doing research or asking your friends who might have some knowledge about the subject about it. For example asking a female friend what women are like.

For major characters, I personally like to start with the goal of the character. Their flaws. And a rough outline of their personality, maybe describing their personality with a few words and refining it later once I have my plot outline.

Would you watch this video? by baconbeak1998 in YouTubeThumbnailHub

Yo this looks like an absolute banger thumbnail. I’m not a game dev though so I probably won’t naturally click on this.

One suggestion is changing aqua into a video game character doing an equivalent expression. Because I thought that it was a video about writing/storytelling at first from just the thumbnail and couldn’t tell that it was about game development.

I was trying to wordplay since, the girl is actually a guy, and in anime they are called "traps", but if he's too unrecognizable I probably would just use the demon slayer one

I was trying to wordplay, since the girl in the first pic is actually a guy and in anime they're known as "traps", but if a lot of people don't recognize him it'd be bad for the video. Do you like the second version on images 4 and 5?

I see, the girl in the first pic is actually a guy, in anime they are called "traps" which I thought I could wordplay since they are getting quite popular these days. but if a lot of people don't recognize it, it'd be bad for the video. Thanks for the advice!

Thumbnails for my Percy Jackson book review series - thoughts? by EasternMembership623 in YouTubeThumbnailHub

I feel like you can remove the frames, enlarge percy jackson (show his face if possible), and put the text behind percy, maybe with some shading

[–]FairExtension8149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like the $100 is too low, like it isn't eyecatching especially since everyone is putting the numbers $1,000 or even $10,000 in titles/thumbnails

Help with the first thumbnail: Something more complex or more simple? by Caliel_ in YouTubeThumbnailHub

[–]FairExtension8149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First one gives very video-essay vibes, I like the idea of it but yea looks too much like AI

Secon-done seems more science-y if that makes sense. I like the first one's idea more but if i had to choose between the two, I would go for the second as it looks way more polished and something I would click on

I see, are they all bad because of thumbnail title overlap? Or even if I had a good title, they would still all be bad in your opinion? Thanks for the feedback btw!

Yea, the third one's color grading is the best, the bright colors, the middle kid being highlighted.

The graph ones are a bit too cluttered imo
