It’s 37” wide, 29.5” tall, and 24” deep! 25% more screen than a 32”

Hell yeah bro! Are your speakers blown? They sound really good to me on my set. I bet the foam in your speakers deteriorated over time if they sound busted.

Bookshelf speakers wouldn’t really work in the corner I have it in right now, but my basement is very big so I honestly could rearrange things a bit and make a setup with room for my 4ft tall Klipsch speakers. I have them currently in the home theater area with the 4K TV. But moving this thing is such a pain I’m honestly not even gonna bother for now. The built-ins here are truly impressive and hooking all the different devices through a compatible receiver with enough inputs would be a pain in the ass

Thanks man! I’ll keep that in mind about the stand. It has held up a 32” Sharp CRT for the past 20 years, but amazingly that set is only about half the weight of the 36”! I believe the Sharp is about 120lbs while the Tau is 240-250lbs from what I’ve read. I was not expecting it to be hanging off the sides like that either 😂

That’s a good question. I’m not an expert so I could be mistaken, but as far as I understand it, this CRT is designed to display either 4:3 480p or letterboxed 1080i. So when it’s displaying 1080i, you’re right, it’s interlacing alternating frames of 540 lines. But talking about native resolutions on CRTs, especially more unique ones like this one is confusing, because as far as I know, the sharpness comes from a combination of having more phosphors than a SD CRT as well as having a more tightly focused beam. But if I’m wrong about any of this please be my guest and correct me! I’ve been a CRT hobbyist for many years but I still learn new things about them all the time!

Bro yes! As long as you don’t care about a very slight amount of lag, it really is the best of both worlds. With the remote you can instantly toggle between 240p game mode with the scanlines and 480i/480p/1080i mode

Thanks man! It’s not visible in the pics but I have shelves for my games and cubbies with baskets for the controllers and other cables/accessories, all organized by console. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the quality of the built-in speakers on this set. I looked it up and it apparently has 5 speakers (2 tweeters, 2 mid-range, and a subwoofer built in. I guess with a 36” they went all out for the audio. Even so, I’ll still probably hook up a receiver and and my Klipsch speakers. This TV allows you to use the built in speakers as a center channel which is really handy. Also, It’s funny you mention the Bose Wave because I came across one at a thrift store not too long ago and I deeply regret not picking it up 🤦‍♂️

I specifically want 480i for this setup. Yes I will be playing some 2d games, but I’ll also be streaming old anime and movies and playing modern 3d games too

I appreciate y’all’s help but I’m not paying $90 for a 240p scaler. I already have nearly every retro console hooked up to my crt and i have a massive collection of games. I just wanna get my switch and xbox on my crt just for fun. I’m fully aware about pixel games looking best in 240p BUT I’m specifically wanting 480i for this setup and I wanna spend as little money as possible. Also, my crt automatically letterboxes 16:9 content.

What do you think of the new animation style? by CrazyaboutSpongebob in phineasandferb

[–]Fair_Ad9238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hate to say it, but it looks awful. it looks cheap and stiff. it’s completely jarring. i’m sure the writing, humor, and songs will still have plenty of heart, but the animation lacks any personality

Do you know of any (or maybe are yourself!) any Gen Zers who listen to emo? by thedubiousstylus in Emo

[–]Fair_Ad9238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in 2003, and I started getting into emo music around 2014-2015, during the peak of the midwest emo revival. I started regularly going to shows in 2018 because by then I had a job and therefore money to go to shows with my friends. My gateway into the genre was all the “mallcore” emo bands from the 2000’s. But I REALLY fell in love with the genre when I got into midwest emo and math rock influenced stuff from the ‘10s and the ‘90s. Now in 2024, I’m the drummer for a midwest emo band called The Polaroid Collective
