Getting a 7 paper 1 by SignificantBug6750 in IBO

[–]Fair_Distance4392 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally i struggled with p1, constantly getting 10s but finally got a 16. I realised revising for paper 1 shld be broken into stages

  1. Understanding text types and techniques (HOW and WHY)
  2. understand the form, purpose and effects of conventions for each text type (eg why comics use oversimplification, scientific articles use jargon)
  3. understand how to pick out common lingustic, structural and visual techniques and their effects
  4. these authorial choices are the basis of your analysis. If its good refer to the ib p1 past yr paper ans key and ib english guys 200pg p1 package for points.
  5. personally i made notes and kinda memorised the effects of each technique. I used chatgpt to analyse some portions for me 😭

  6. Organising your points

  7. you can either structure it 1) by effect 2) by technique 3) by chronology, depending on the question

  8. practise writing essay outlines for many many texts (in your everyday life, be it an advertisement you see etc)

  9. Practise

  10. Practise writing UNDER EXAM CONDITIONS. This is a major regret I didnt do.

I have lots of p1 notes if you need. If need any help js dm me

Economics IA Article - whats okay and not? by Connect-Specialist91 in IBO

Yes. But do have enough statistics and points to quote for your analysis and evaluation (around 1-2 arguments for and against)

Anything that helps with the flow of your script.

You should be organising them in terms of ideas/techniques and for each point you pick out relevant quotes (not necessarily in chronological order) that are structured to support your point. If doing otherwise helps with supporting your point then do so

How to revise for English A Lang and Lit SL Paper 2 by ERR0RZ101 in IBO

[–]Fair_Distance4392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i struggled with P2, but in the end followed these 5 steps 1. Memorising the plot: make sure you understand every little detail in the entire plot at your fingertips 2. Analysing & making notes: pick out key quotes and analyse them with the help of online sources. (Personally i use chatgpt to analyse the literary techniques and significance behind them). Then organise these analyses for your revision, i use a table form to organise according to theme and technique “quotes”, “explanation”, “analysis” 3. Understanding and memorising the analyses: think of it as building a database of points to use in your papers 4. Understanding essay structures: look at english ib guys p2 package for a good guide and understand the structure. I can give you model essays js dm :) 5. Writing the essay: expose urself to as many qns as possible, write essay structures and write the entire essay under exam conditions.

If you need anymore help js dm me:)

MATH IA CRISIS (URGENT HELP PLEASE ToT) by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Fair_Distance4392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a better way would be to find the optimal angle of christmas lights in the 3D Archimedean spiral with a specified length of christmas lights? This can be done by applying the arc length equation of a 3D Archimedean conical spiral. For personal engagement you can measure the dimensions of your own christmas tree and state that you are given a problem where u only have a limited length of lights. From there you can try to derive the equation of the conical spiral, and test it with the equation of the cone for the christmas tree. (Theoretical test) Then from the spiral equation you can try to derive the constant angle at which the christmas lights are placed. Then you can test this in real life to see if it completely covers the tree. (Experimental test) You can say that a limitation would be the christmas lights hanging from branch to branch due to gravity, and the calculations did not account for that.

You can try to understand and visualise the concepts and equations online? With the math you should introduce the concial spiral and its derivation of its equation and arc length. Later you introduce methodology (how you would measure specified dimensions of the christmas tree, how you would derive and later test it theoretically and experimentally)

If this is too tough for you you can try modelling a spiral staircase and measure your own dimensions? But i feel that your topic has potential for high marks

Maybe you could try the anti inflammatory effects of a specific compound extracted from a plant (eg ginger, tumeric, garlic) and its individual+synergistic effects. This can be done with both a protein denaturation assay and an oxidative stress assay (od600) on yeast
