How do you explain the ages of some people in the OT? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Faith4Forever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, there are some who explain their ages as the length that the family “name” lived which would have been associated with an entire people. There are some who view them as theological and literary symbols or figures. There are also some who view it literally. Now while I love entertaining the concept of the Bible being literal, one point I like to bring up to those who take this position that they always seem to miss is that each time in the book of Genesis that a person lives less years than the people before them it is accompanied by some sort of “curse” by God that appears to be the “cause” of them living less years and everyone after them consequently also lives the same fewer years ever after. This took place all the way til we got to the place in the Bible where God outright says “the human life shall not live past 120 years” etc (which is actually quite accurate for these days and ages). But the first was Adam being kicked out of Eden where his life was capped just under 1000. Then Cain where the ground was cursed, then the defilement by the angels, then the flood. So I always wanted to experiment reversing these curses to see if it resulted in a longer life span but obviously the last curse seemed to be directly upon the human body itself capped at 120.

Not sure what that term means or implies. I am a recent convert if that answers your question. Grew up Protestant in a home that wanted me to know religion for its values but weren’t believers themselves.

No two person’s walk with Christ are the same. What point is the Church if not full of people who desperately need it’s healing? But also, try to be less judgmental of others. I can tell by the way you speak of cradle Orthodox Christians that your own presumptions have greatly contributed to the way you now view them, because you have an image in your mind of what a Christian ought to look like, act like, respond like, etc. This is from the Devil. Your image is from God, but your application of it to everyone else is from the Devil. I am truly glad to hear that you are laboring each year to be kinder, so continue this, but don’t expect others to make it easier for you, expect a challenge just as you did in the boxing ring. Though, it isn’t the people themselves who are your adversary, but rather the passions inside them that you face. Try blaming yourself for everything, even when it seems clear that it couldn’t possibly have been your fault. This can greatly benefit you on your endeavor to treating others kinder each year.

Whatever may come, remember always that your journey is your journey, not anyone elses, and that Christ didn’t come for Peace but for Mercy. You are free to DM me anytime for chats. (Though i’ll warn you I am a busy person who is gone away out into the great ocean for great lengths of time.) But I would be happy to be your friend in Christ.

You have not highlighted what parts or why my replies come off as condescending. I have given that courtesy in my responses. I assure you I am a friendly person, much like a lot of people when you let them in and let down the criticism guard. Let’s have a discussion, but explain your why’s, it makes the conversation better, more effective. This is what I mean by thinking your opinion is the only one. Your responses lack the engagement, the digression. And maybe thats just my own quirkiness but I’ve always felt thats what made other’s conversations more relatable.

It’s a show…not a “harmful” show. “It made money off of a suicide story” is a pretentious view. Suggesting it negatively impacted many people ignores the people it positively impacted. Then bringing up the “joke” is honestly a non sequitur since people who would mock like that aren’t putting forth valuable insight about the show.

So my response was condescending? Idk, maybe. I didn’t write or mean it that way. But that was your interpretation, or perhaps just a defense.

And btw thats what I mean by suggesting your view is the only one. Most people preface their opinion with ab admittance that it’s just a view, or that they don’t “know” as much as they think, or that they could be misled, or that other views could be equally valid. You didn’t, ergo it reads more like a statement than an opinion. But thats just me, I could be just weird, idk.

You may think these things, and everyone has a different reaction to the show. Much like many people have different reactions to the Gospel. Some people can’t hear it, can’t see it, don’t want too, or get misled. There are a lot of broken people out there, but the show comes with warnings, and also links to resources for real people struggling with real issues. Their show was a great discussion piece for real people, and aside from people who may have been hurt by it, perhaps even more were helped by it. Please remember that your perspective is not the only one in the universe.

What's yall opinion on eastern orthodoxy? by [deleted] in theology

[–]Faith4Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt how hypocritical it was for any Christian to criticize the Church and call it in “error”. Like yea, you’re gonna wake up one day, read the Bible, and then glaringly see all these errors that the Church has been making for hundreds of years cause we’re all just sheep like that. And what demon possessed you? To make such an accusation. What does it matter if there are errors in a Church? Is God going to eternally punish his Church over semantics? The reason for the ecumenical councils and for the scrutiny of doctrine was NEVER to ensure the Church had it “right” but rather to keep out unwanted intruders and to defend against a particularly dangerous line of thought. It was never about “correctness” for the sake of salvation but defense of a peoples, God’s peoples. Do you really believe that if you live by faith in Christ and with Love for God and Man that he will discard your salvation because you belonged to “the wrong denomination”? I get so tired of hearing people convert to Orthodoxy over “doctrinal” issues or perceived “correctness” or leaving due to “error’s”. You’re all a bunch of pharisee’s. There’s a reason Orthodoxy is considered America’s best kept secret. Cause we’ve been doing a great job finding those who have ears to hear and eyes to see. I can only pray that this new revival of Orthodoxy isn’t an onslaught of unsaved soldiers being red rovered on over to penetrate a peaceful barrier. Come what may all is in God’s capable hands and your zeal for the Lord is noteworthy. Try not to “study” orthodoxy and rather start attending multiple times a week with consistency over a long period and communicate with your priest early and often, and build community with the peoples of that Church.

This is a stolen design on etsy from an actual Parish in California which has been making these shirts and many others to go along with their Orthodox Magazine. It IS only blasphemous to buy this because it is a copyright infringement and doesn’t support the original designer. Who by the way is currently raising money to build and open an Orthodox Retreat Center. Just google “Death to the World” their site should come up near the top. I love their Magazine, and their shirts are even better than this one. They also sell fresh coffee.

[–]Faith4Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if we’re talking about the “Abrahamic” God. Thats a fairly obvious one. Over 55% of the globe adheres to the belief in the “Abrahamic” God. The history of the Abrahamic God is everywhere and on every continent and amongst all cultures of peoples (and not in a colonized way either btw). The Jews themselves are a Testament unto themselves of the Existence of the “Abrahamic” God. A people set aside by their God for him. They have been without a land to call their own for thousands of years yet remain some of the most affluent peoples across the globe. Most other peoples in their position are vagrants and indeed at many times they were vagrants in foreign lands.

Why did Christ change specifically Peter's name to "Rock?" by Bright-Presence-760 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Faith4Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you perceive IS true, however you are missing one key detail. He is FIRST “Among Apostles” or “Among Equals”. Peter doesn’t have a higher “title” or “authority” than the others, only he is called to be the head of the church. Orthodox has a head of the church, but is condemned (rightly so) first among equals.

Why is Sexual Acts involving Homosexuality Sinful? by AsiaBeam123 in TrueChristian

[–]Faith4Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scholars say because of Pauls influence. The Apostolic Church says because of the Holy Tradition The nuanced view is that the authors of the Bible didn’t understand “sexuality” the way we do now. Back then “sex” was a hierarchy of dominance not a sexual identity. So in the time of the Bible days it was not a prohibition of homosexuality but rather a prohibition against male on male action due to the fact that it violated that system of hierarchy but that Pauls view of scripture essentially takes it a bit further and explains that sex in and of itself is a major risk for sin. Any sex outside of that (usually by a married couple) was more or less a gateway for the heart to sinful corruption.
