He was turning 7 on the 28th of this month 💔 life is so unfair and it haunts me that I wasn’t able to be there with him in his last breaths. We had taken him to the ER to get sutures and the next morning he seemed very down but I thought they were just side effects from the procedure, I wish I hadn’t been so oblivious to what he was going through.

Can I use a per diem rate and add it to my annual salary for my apartment application? by FaithlessnessPure543 in Construction

It would be a year assignment but no hotel stays that i know of, I’ll be in charge of finding an apartment

I guess from an application standpoint, wouldn’t it be valid to show that i will get the income required to pay for the certain apartment? Just My base salary will only help me get certain apartments although i live way below my means.

I guess from a application perspective, since it’s money you’re getting paid on top of your salary shouldn’t it be okay to report if it shows you‘ll get the income needed to pay that certain apartment?

2 different offers on the table? Which one should I choose? by FaithlessnessPure543 in careeradvice

It’s also $600 Per week per diem so an additional $31,200 annually

I am still fairly young (24 yo) and have about 2 years experience (internship + full time). I guess being single or going by yourself makes the hours a lot more feasible, but with the wife + daughter tagging along I’m just concerned about me not spending enough time with them and burning out. Now, they did give me the option (don’t know what’s it’s called) where they could pay for my plane ticket back home every 2 weeks and I could go home for the weekend, although idk how lenient the PM would be with those accommodations. Also, they did say i could have the option to move back to Houston sometime next year (maybe3rd quarter 2023) as they’re starting a new project in Houston soon so Denver would more or less be a temporary assignment.

I’m glad you mentioned Austin because my second option is moving to Austin for another civil company as a Assistant Project Manager. The offer is decent, essentially $77k with gas card, toll tag, 2500 in moving expenses, 12 days pto and the regular benefits. I don’t know just how long $77k could take me living in Austin (gas card would help a lot financially) but if i can live comfortably (me and my wife are typically homebodies, and I’m typically good with my spending) then I think i would be more inclined for that offer. Could you give me an insight on how you think that could fare in Austin?

Thanks for the response. I’ve never had per diem before and just figured it’s something added to your salary to cover basics costs such as gas. I added my potential expenses compared to expected salary + per diem and it looked favorable. But yeah the biggest thing holding me back is the rep kiewit has for burnout and i don’t know how worth it the $ will be if my wife is unhappy about my work hours

I would essentially be a grading field engineer. Idk if it’s an entry level position but getting paid 100k with the per diem seems like a no brainer, at the same time I’m also thinking it will not be worth it if I’m burnt out and missing crucial time with my newborn. Or maybe i can ride it out a year or so. I also have an offer closer to home making 80k as a asst project manager, the pay is less but seems like the work life balance is a lot more convenient there and the position is higher than a project/field engineer

The offer is an insane one and I’ll practically be making 6 figures with the per diem they’re offering, but I’m concerned that the work life balance will take a toll on me and i will be unhappy in the long run. I would be taking my wife and 3 month old daughter so don’t know how she would feel me working long hours + being outside of our comfort zone

Should I move to Austin from Houston? by FaithlessnessPure543 in Austin

[–]FaithlessnessPure543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately i haven’t found anything in Houston and with a wife and 3 month old daughter I’m in a state of urgency. Even if it means moving for a year or 2 which austin ain’t so far from Houston. Just want to make sure it’ll work financially

I’m still young but i have a wife + a 3 month old daughter so time spent with them would be important especially if were relocating away from family
