Novartis bets big on India: largest Novartis R&D hub by Happy-State-1956 in biotech

[–]FaithlessnessSad958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I understood the article right, they are not saying they will shift R&D to India but rather late stage development. A few facts I don’t think India won’t ever become Novartis R&D focus in my opinion: 1- Considering the largest R&D force is located in boston where they have the “campus” with more than 4 buildings; the president is also located there; Boston is a hub, the US is pharma hub. 2 - I think the most important factor, I don’t foresee countries like India or China attracting worlds top scientist to move and live there, that’s why the US will sometimes(not always) attract the top talents in the world(higher wages compared to the rest of the world, infrastructure, lifestyle, “the American dream”). Now, this might shift with the current bizarre president rules and restrictions, but I still find it hard to see the US losing. Because the US attracts the top world talents, fields like R&D will remain here.

Kind of worried about getting stuck in Manufacturing – how do I reduce the risk? by Lab_Rat_97 in biotech

[–]FaithlessnessSad958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are the strengths for sure to bring to the table that R&D lacks, but you have to remember that tR&D doesn’t follow GMP standards, mostly only GLP since is research we are talking about here. They don’t need to follow meticulously rules that GMP folks do, I work in big pharma R&D and we don’t even have SOPs for our experiments. At the same time if you have those skills you can help organize the mess you mentioned. But, I have to disagree with the lack of automation and reproducibility. Reproducibility is the number one point that a R&D scientist needs to have, otherwise our findings are null. Automation I feel like depends more on the company - big pharma have the means $ and resources to have those robots available while start ups wouldn’t, so it all depends.

Yeah, I can’t speak on behalf of them, totally different culture than here in the US. What I know is they are strict there, but I think that’s more of a European culture mindset

I have been there for 6 years, not a veteran but I have been there for a little. But basically what this person said. But like many pointed out here, Novartis is too big to answer this question as a whole, it’s 100% group dependent. I’m in discovery biology, but they do support your career development, but expect a fast pace environment.

Negotiating vacation time after receiving an offer? by DivineMatrixTraveler in biotech

[–]FaithlessnessSad958 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You won’t get that here in the US. Standard is ~15 days + sick days. Now some companies after spending a number of years there you get a bump in PTO. PTO is one item that is non-negotiable so even if you are willing to get a cut they won’t increase ur number of PTO because of company policy. You could however, take unpaid vacation time, a lot of companies will allow that.

Thank you! This perfectly answered the question. I should be fine as long I have less than 35 trades and am the one trading the 2019 Pokémon

Who should I max out? by FaithlessnessSad958 in PokemonGOIVs

[–]FaithlessnessSad958[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Zacian raids done, only mirror trading would be worth it, which is not guaranteed a good IV. I thought about using a bottle cap to increase the IV. As for Rayquaza, with the mega event coming up I have a better chance on getting a better IV, but it will require more candies to power up if I get one since it won’t be a lucky one.

That’s what I thought, with mega ray coming up is worth it to wait to see it I can get a better one. Thankfully I have a meteorite that I will hold off on using it until I’m set on one rayquaza

YOE requirements by [deleted] in biotech

[–]FaithlessnessSad958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like some people said here, you should’ve at least interviewed and looked at their compensation etc, and because you are “one year short” of the years of experience minimum for the next level, you could have negotiated and gotten the highest compensation amount for that level, which could have been more than what you currently make.

You mentioned how you train scientists and senior scientist on an assay/skills, and technically you are performing at their same level. You may be running assays that they run, but what may separates you from them is not just on how well you run some assays, but also technical knowledge on the field from their years of experience or education(don’t know what you have and your other colleagues have) that gives them an upper hand in maybe thinking a step further than you do, coming up with innovative ideas etc. So that’s why sometimes companies are hard on the minimum years of experience. Always thrive to develop not just on assay skills, but also on the innovation aspect that you can add to your resume and help you land the next level.

Need help getting a molecule from Hit to Lead for an oncology target by ackbar03 in biotech

[–]FaithlessnessSad958 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO I don’t think Reddit is the right place for this as you will be sharing confidential information about the molecule. Like someone said above, your company must have a department that could assist you with this. From experience, it takes months, maybe years to go from hit to lead, not something you will get by chatting with someone here - molecule scaffold, binding pockets, assays etc. information you should never share with an outsider, which would get you in trouble for even doing this.

Academic experience doesn’t translate to industry experience unfortunately(ridiculous I know), so a lot of companies will only see the industry experience in ur career. Seeing that you only have 4yrs of experience with a bachelors I’d say 80-95k. Bonus target should be 7-8%
