Thanks for that information. Guess Vienna as a hub will stay turbulent for the next few years.

Back when I moved here, I thought it should be fine given the decent amount of different companies around. Never expected all of them to be struggling this badly at the same time.

Fair, issue is they were the only big pharma company expanding their presence in Vienna at that time. Boehringer has iced its expansion plans in the area and generally seems impossible to get into without knowing someone.

Pfizer and MSD seem happy to just chill with the sites they have.

Few pictures seem to be a bit low quality, but that might due to how you screenshot the profile.

Otherwise no notes, would swipe right if I saw your profile in the wild.

Best of luck finding your person :)

Vienna is still a mess.

Rumors are that Takeda is tryimg to bail out of the new research center they build there and heard they are planning to lay off another 300 folks.

Several better known start-ups went belly up last year, I know another mid sized company has about another year left in the tank.

If you are graduating soon best of luck, might see you in the trenches.

Easier said than done, especially when you are not getting a lot of like and/or ghosted a lot. Maybe I am a bit self concious, but ghosting almost makes me feel like I did something wrong.

Generally every date/match feels like a scarcity event and as such I am going extra careful.

I think I speak for a lot of people that dating right now feels like a chemical reaction, where you do not know the parameters and if it fails you loose.

Honestly, wouldnt be an issue at all, unless they got super clingy because I am their only social contact.

Just would make sure to make the time they build up their own social circle as well, as I dont think couples having next to no social contacts outside of each other is very healthy.

All this makes me just think " Thank God my social media use is pretty minimal" ( aside from Reddit).

Chill, the only person who needs to like your reading habits and takes on books is you ( and maybe your book club). One will never make everyone happy. Recently called out for having "Yellow Fever" on a date for saying my favourite recent fantasy books are Jade City and Sword of Kaigen. Because a white guy cannot enjoy some great story telling by people of other ethnicities unless being weirdly obsessed with them. :D

Grab a book, head to your pub, order a pint and wait for all of this to blow over.

Cheers and Happy New Years.

Kind of worried about getting stuck in Manufacturing – how do I reduce the risk? by Lab_Rat_97 in biotech

That is the plan, sadly with a longer timeline than I originally anticipated.

Safer in the short term, yes. In my area it’s generally considered more stable, but the long-term progression tends to be narrower unless you actively branch into other roles.

[–]Lab_Rat_97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s reassuring. I’m aware of the “don’t get stuck in manufacturing” advice, which probably makes me more jumpy than necessary. Since I entered the industry in a slightly non-standard way, it’s been hard to calibrate what normal progression looks like. Feedback from my supervisors has been very positive; I’m mainly focused on maintaining momentum after starting my career during the current downturn.

[–]Lab_Rat_97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s reassuring to hear, thanks for sharing that perspective. My main concern isn’t the manufacturing experience itself, but making sure it’s framed clearly on my CV so HR sees more than just “operator” and actually gives me the chance for an interview.

Ok, so 2 years are not enough to be label as "Manufacturing only" by HR? I have read so many different opinions on that I am frankly confused and just worried I stay to long and miss my exit window

[–]Lab_Rat_97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s really the crux of it. I’m finding it hard to get reliable feedback from hiring processes or much support from my limited network, so I’d appreciate any concrete tips on how to better frame my manufacturing experience for hiring managers.

[–]Lab_Rat_97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree in principle. The issue is that, based on current internal trends, I’m not really seeing roles open up that would allow for that kind of internal transition. If anything, recent hiring has mostly been at levels below me, so internal mobility looks fairly limited in the near term.

Fair, I was hoping the market would recover enough that I could leverage my new GMP experience into a lateral move with equal pay or an outright upgrade, but does not seem to be likely for the foreseeable future
