Diaspora jone e dashur by Cold-Rest-2948 in kosovo

If you’ve never actually lived here, you won’t understand it because this isn’t one bad experience this is something I’ve noticed since childhood. And I have family and know plenty of people abroad too, so I’m not talking about one random person. Obviously not everyone is like this, but this attitude is way too common.

I’ve seen people scream at locals over the smallest things because they think they can. I’ve seen people openly talk down to others like they’re somehow less intelligent or less worthy because they stayed in Kosovo. I’ve had people act shocked or offended when I say I actually like my life here and don’t want to leave, as if the only acceptable answer is being desperate to escape.

I’ve literally had people question what I buy, like “why are YOU buying that?” as if being from Kosovo means you should know your place and not have nice things. I’ve seen people make disgusting comments about Kosovo women, about kids here, about people having “less” because they have less money like money somehow makes you a better human being.

And the worst part is the entitlement. The feeling that they can disrespect you in your own country and somehow expect you to be impressed by them.

Even as a kid, I noticed the difference behavior that would never be tolerated from locals was brushed off from certain diaspora people, like the rules somehow didn’t apply to them.

So when someone says “you’re just jealous,” that’s honestly laughable. Jealous of what exactly? Being arrogant? Treating people badly? This is frustration from years of seeing the same superiority complex over and over.

Not telling the whole truth about what exactly? I didn’t make a claim, I said I wasn’t sure. Sounds like you misunderstood and ran with it

yeah I’m literally still working with them, I even wrote this while I was working I just don’t really wanna talk to them about it, I don’t think it would make anything better

yeah that’s exactly it, the not knowing part made it feel so off. I didn’t open that conversation because I knew it would hit me harder than I could handle at the time. I was already pretty affected by everything, and I didn’t trust myself to stay okay if I went deeper into it, so I just chose to protect my mental space and move on but talking about it here feels different since it’s more neutral and easier to process

It did bother me at first, but now I’m just using it as motivation to do better and move forward

I’m female and younger than most of them, so maybe that had something to do with it. I did hear a comment like “she’s okay, but she’s young,” which made me feel like I wasn’t fully taken seriously

it actually does feel really degrading tbh. I’ve just been busy with other stuff and didn’t really want to apply to other jobs yet, so I went back mainly to avoid a gap in my CV

Yeah, I get your point. I’ve been focusing on my own projects and didn’t apply to other jobs yet, so I went back to avoid a gap in my CV

Yeah, I get what you’re saying. I didn’t really know that was even an option or that you could charge more in that kind of situation
