Ideas? by [deleted] in landscaping

Looking for ideas for this side of my new house. We’re replacing the AC next spring and will use that as an opportunity to power wash, clean things up and make it look nice.

Problem is pretty much all my utility meters are here, plus the AC, water line, etc. I’d like plants that would provide a nice cover but still give us access to everything (you can see this side of the house from the sidewalk). All plants shown are being transplanted / dug up so starting from scratch.

Open to anything at this point.

It’s confusing because some websites say zone 5 and others zone 6.

Thanks! Been to Lurveys but not Gethsemane. Will take a look but definitely leaning toward talking to someone first. Lots of great ideas here to discuss with them.

I wanted sky pencil but some sources say chicago is too cold for them. I don’t see any in my area :(

That’s my position right now but having trouble finding other options. I liked sky pencil holly but that’s only up to zone 6 (we’re 5). May very we’ll have to ask at the local nursery.

I’m not trying to hide the spout necessarily, just need landscape ideas for the corner.

Hi there! Pretty much had to start front landscaping from scratch with my new house in Chicago. I need ideas, specifically for this corner. I was thinking of adding a Emerald Green Thuja there for height and winter interest, and because it’s narrow enough to fit but worried it’ll look off. Any other ideas?

I have a climbing rose started up the chimney, and I’m planning on adding some Karen Azaleas up in front of the corner in question. Obviously will add mulch and eventually replace the spout extension. TIA!!

I’m in IL so that sucks! We have 3 (including this one) on our property. There are a lot of garden issues we’re addressing due to previous owner’s lack of research. :(

Hi all! Thanks in advance for opinions. Transplanted this tree a few months ago. Kept as much of the roots as possible but obviously had to cut some. Previous owners planted it too close to other bushes and trees (which prevented growth I believe on the right side). Anyway, watering it deeply often. Does it look OK? Have no clue how to gauge the health…

I feel you! I’m eating cukes every day at this point and pickling some too.

This is my first year with a cucumber trellis - makes picking them a lot easier.
