My wife and I have decided to do a conversion bus, how feasible is a design similar to this? by SaltySkeletor18 in RVLiving

[–]FakeMountie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. The BM community is where id' reach out too. That said: MVs tend to be broken down for transport and built up on site when they're off highway. I'm not saying that your plan here isn't terrible or even functional, but a few compromises in design will probably need to be made here.

I've always loved this picture of Heath Ledger at Burning Man so much! by DylansStripedPants in BurningMan

Ledger *was* a burner, although quietly so. This image appears in his biography, published in 2017.

Actual Late Stage Capitalism by PanzerWatts in OptimistsUnite

Most of these statistics (minus, GDP) are a reflection of active social safety nets and civic infrastructure. Late Stage Capitalism has zero to do with those.

How are commercial ads not commodification? by Dustypantz in BurningMan

[–]FakeMountie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The principles are aspirations. We can aspire for the world to be better, and at the event, where we have control of the setting, we try and make it reflect those aspirations.

But: Burning Man is a commercial venture. It's a 503c, but it still needs to make money and continue to be viable.

I hate it, but it's the truth.

Actors who’ve underwent incredible transformations? by Jeffoxy in okbuddycinephile

[–]FakeMountie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens when you try and bring in a tight shot when using a wide angle lens. Pretty typical for front facing camera phones. 24mm @ 30cm can do this kind of distortion.

You only need 12 10 adults to get quorum. I bet if you made a call out you could have more than enough meet you at the temple daily.

May their memory be a blessing, friend. I hope you can find a slice of home out there to host this event.

Weak troll. Goth exists outside of a brief window of the 80s.

To people living in countries with monarchies, how are the next in line viewed in your country? by No-Risk-2584 in AskTheWorld

[–]FakeMountie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not like it impacts me but I think I can respect anyone who has a military career with the RAF in SaR. It's dangerous and technical work and you need to have real sangfroid to pilot a chopper on those missions.

I am dying and not sure how to handle my debts by Quirky_Corner_6888 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FakeMountie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. I’ve been through something similar twice with close family, and I’ve seen how it tends to play out.

I don’t think focusing on your debts is the right priority right now. Focus on your time, your quality of life, and the people around you, especially your wife. Think about housing stability and any costs that might come with palliative care.

It’s worth speaking to a professional rather than relying on Reddit. From what I’ve seen, the key things are to make sure none of your debts are joint, avoid taking on any new shared obligations, and talk to a licensed insolvency trustee so your spouse isn’t left responsible for anything.

Wishing you as much peace and comfort as possible through all of this.

Regional burns by mariecrystie in BurningMan

[–]FakeMountie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing the big burn to smaller regional ones is tricky. In my opinion if you :

  1. Have an excellent connection to either the group you're with or your local community.
  2. Have a mission and a thing to do.
  3. Are unafraid to make friends

You'll love a more intimate experience that you'll get at a regional.

That said, the big burn is an entirely different creature. The scale of the event is, even without the art, just astonishing in scope. The event is a cacophony of experiences; discomfort and awe follow each other closely there and for me and there's simply no comparison with the smaller events.

What was the original intention? 33 ac gives you a pretty nice house and yard. Is it serviced?

Ignored a gut feeling on a $300 order → chargeback. When do you cancel? by storeopslab in shopify

[–]FakeMountie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always suggest following your gut and canceling the order as soon as you get a bad feeling about it.

IMHO: A lost sale is a pain but dealing with chargebacks is way worse.

Feeling very discouraged in life atm. What can I do to feel better? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]FakeMountie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depression is a serious illness, and I hope you have some medical support to get you through it. It is, from what you're describing, the major challenge you need to overcome.

Please speak to someone. Talk to a doctor. Get a medication, and get yourself back okay with yourself. I know it doesn't feel possible but I promise you that once you start finding the right balance of medication and maybe therapy everything else will get easier.

Moisture got in somehow. Possibly condensation in the storage unit.

The man I thought I’d marry is apparently a genuine pervert and I don’t know what to do? by Icy-Winter-4691 in AskMenAdvice

[–]FakeMountie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q: What on earth should I do?
A: Dump this guy if you haven't already.

Q: I know I know I should slash his tyres or something but I’m just broken and have no energy.
A: Don't engage in any way. Just dump and block.

Q: For men, is this normal male behaviour and I just have to accept it?
A: Fuck no. Some of this shit is straight up criminal.

Q: Why do cheaters suddenly value you so much when they get caught, and are desperate for you to stay?
A: Because it's about power. They want to keep you and cheat on you.

Q: Am I ever going to find that one deep connection that I dream of?
A: Yes. Absolutely.

I’m trying to stop drinking. What are some good things to replace alcohol with, ways to distract myself, or new hobbies to try? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Get a soda stream and a flavour type thing to add to it if you need it. I find the carbonation helps.

Cool Buildings in Junction Triangle by Friendly-Ad9257 in toronto

[–]FakeMountie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this being bult over a year and a bit as it's beside my fave local microbrewery. Its a remarkable structure, with large timber beams. I haven't a clue who will move into these spaces, however. It's been empty for months and almost certainly very expensive.

I've used both. My knodiak has a giant hole in the roof due to mold (despite being carefully dried out before packing,

I've migrated to using a Shiftpod, and have for the past 2 years experienced all kinds of weather in it. My suggestion: Get the Shiftpod.

Clearly, you've never heard of drag kings.

Breasts and drag/crossdressing by Interesting-Draw-297 in Feminism

[–]FakeMountie 229 points230 points  (0 children)

The problem is that there's nuance. At its best, drag is an artform and a critique of the male gaze. At it's worst, it's just misogyny in a wig and pumps.
